Found out my girlfriend has been cheating on me for the last 2 months, I've honestly never felt this low in my life, how do people deal with these kind of feelings? by s_dafuq_jin AskReddit

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

I find the other girls suggestion can backfire. Hooked up with one of my friends after my last breakup and it was good for a little while, but I felt even worse a week later

Quick question - How to backup whole machine by yestin linux

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

Oh lol, I just assumed you had gzip inline. Basically do my zero suggestion and then add gzip -c between your DD and your ssh and you wont have woworry about shuffling that whole half terabyte around. It should be pretty close to the size of the data on the partition at that point.

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

It also helps to create a massive file of zeros just to make sure the free space can be compressed easily.

DD if=/dev /zero of=/mnt/databasedata/zero.img BS=8M

Let that run until the disk is mostly full and then delete zero.img and your backup will compress much better

I hate to be another one to make this question. But what is r/linux advice for a distribution that supports suspend or hibernation on a laptop flawlessly. by karmaisabitch69in linux

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

My thinkpad x41 and sl400 both run debian and hibernate and suspend beautifully. The only time I ever run into problems involves putting it in the docking station or removing it while suspended. But that isn't a persistent problem.

Funny enough, my Kia Soul doesn't have much soul. Its slow and has practically no steering feedback. Seems to be good value for money tho. (I probably would have gotten something better if I had bought it on my own terms)

Definitely, I have a laserjet 4l on my desk that still runs strong. Its only a personal printer, but I haven't replaced the toner in years.

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

Yea, it was kind of rediculous, one of my early workarounds involved taking advantage that they didn't restrict telnet, but they did "uninstall" the client and hyperterm. I discovered this just meant that the executables were just renamed to .ex_ so it was pretty easy to go in telnet into the public Unix system I used at the time. I could even do zmodem to download stuff.

Well, obviously I'm a geek, but I had a wifi connected PDA back in 2004 when I was in middle school.

Man, I used to dodge around almost any access restrictions my school put in place and I never got asked yo do anything like that.

My high-school did this. Funny thing was tho, if you pointed your SSH client at the proxy, it would happily pass the traffic.

Refurbishing ThinkPad R60, Worth it? by westoncwin hardware

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

I've had mixed luck with those cheap batteries. I've got one in my current laptop, and it certainly doesn't perform as well as I expected it to, but it does pretty well for the price.

I'd say it sounds like an ok investment, I'd probably go cheaper on the Hard drive myself, but that's just me.

I'm sitting here typing this on a Thinkpad X41. Its amazing how little specs you need to run a lightweight linux distro.

Should I do the one big test or the two little ones? by mrmowglisirin ccna

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

I haven't taken the tests yet myself, but I'm planning on doing the two smaller ones. I did pretty well in class, but its been over a semester since I've dealt with some of this stuff. So I figure I'll break it down and focus on doing well.

Yea, Our teacher constantly beat it into our head not to do that, and yet somehow there are still several switches per rack that need a fresh IOS installed.

Sounds like you're having all kinds of luck with that scooter.
I'm definitely going to agree with the carb being gummed up.

before you try actually pulling the carb out, it might be worth it to pick up some seafoam or chemtool from autozone and add a bit of that to the tank. If the main jet isn't completely clogged, it should help clear it up the rest of the way.

There's always the old remove the air filter and give it a good shot of carb cleaner, that does wonders. I've saved many a 'broken' lawn mower that way. Honestly, I would try this before trying the seafoam.

So does that mean the plug computer currently supporting your wireless infrastructure then?

Ask /r/sysadmin: Advice on rewiring of a housing co-op? by aoeuidhtsin sysadmin

[–]ziggit 1 point2 points ago

I would reccomend an atom board running PFsense or something at the very least. I haven't used any of the little plug computers, but I doubt they'd have enough oomph to support that many users.

Also, normally, I would be all for gig switches, but it sounds like your case you would probably be better off picking up a good managed 10/100 switch than a cheap gigabit switch. Everybody will still have enough bandwidth running to their desktops to saturate the connection.

And last but not least, while you're at it, you might as well save your self some headache and set up a proper wireless network. I'm guessing that you'll be running nat on your router, so when people plug in their wireless router also running nat, its gonna be a pain. Sometimes double NAT works, sometimes it doesn't, it just kinda depends on how you have things implemented.
So might as well just implement the whole service through vs trying to support people with random end devices.

Moped, Scooter, Motorcycle Repair? by fossettin Denton

[–]ziggit 0 points1 point ago

Yea, Ive known a few people who did that for classic bikes where they couldn't find parts. Just a quick run to RadioShack to get a couple cheap toggle switches. Shouldn't be too hard to wire up in a pinch.
