Moving to Oakland! Need advice by BTfromSunlightin oakland

[–]xtrmntr 1 point2 points ago

You can register for a bikelink card at bikelink.org & the lockers cost $0.03 per hour. Downtown Oakland stations (i.e. 12th & 19th) don't have too many spots but MacArthur usually has a few open even as late as 10am. MacArthur also has racks inside the fare gates, which seems like it would be a bit more secure than out. Only thefts I've had in 6 years here were a seat (quick-release) when locked up on the street outside Embarcadero overnight & the whole bike locked outside 19th overnight.

TIL that "Nothing" in the title of the Shakespearean play "Much Ado About Nothing" is Elizabethan slang for vagina by zeffypin todayilearned

nothing -> noting -> an o-thing...

So... Waitaminute. Does that mean the "o-face" line from Office Space is a Shakespeare reference? :O

/r/offbeat seemed to enjoy my ambient / police radio mashup site a few months ago, so I thought I'd let you guys know that I just added 12 more cities & am working on an iPhone version. Check it out! by xtrmntrin offbeat

haven't found too many non-US streams, but I will keep looking. Just found one in Puerto Rico & there seem to be a few in Australia, although they're not very active. Maybe I need to go and set up my own scanners elsewhere... ¬¬

Each audio player should have it's own volume slider so you can set it to match your preference. And Sacramento is a good idea. Adding it to the list for future updates! =)

Hey you guys I just updated my ambient music + police radio site with 12 new cities (Boston, San Diego, Philly, Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, Portland, Austin, Baltimore, Denver & Phoenix) Comments, queries, music submissions...? by xtrmntrin WeAreTheMusicMakers

Cool! Just went in there and added one of your tracks ("Rendering of Reality (chill version)") to the playlist. I like the other ones too, but as of right now the playlist is pretty much totally "beat-free" so as not to conflict with the scanner radio talk. Anyway, thanks for getting in touch! =)

Hey thanks! There should be separate volume sliders for each feed so you can control this. Unfortunately it's difficult to do this automatically b/c the feeds are coming from so many different sources...

What makes Spotify better/more popular than Rhapsody? by dubblechrispin spotify

[–]xtrmntr 1 point2 points ago

For me, Rhapsody has always tainted by association with RealNetworks/RealPlayer. In retrospect, perhaps I was hoping for too much from an application that claimed to be able to reliably stream audio (and video!) over a 14.4 modem, but what other options did we have? Still though... "Buffering". Ugh. Furthermore, once mp3s became widely available and "streaming" began to seem less important, I feel like Real probably set us back at least 3 or 4 years by providing record labels with a panacea (i.e "Streaming's not downloading!") that ruined the UX of a lot of otherwise excellent sites and ultimately only served to delay the inevitable. One could argue that Spotify is doing basically the same thing, but at least they're Swedish!
