As posted earlier today (in the other thread), there are many reasons this may have happened such as helping you avoid a speed trap or helping the police slow traffic down because of an issue ahead. Everyone is so quick to call these guys assholes. I work with rig drivers every day and would say 99% of them are damn good people.
