TROPHY CASE

Tiny kitten retrieved from motorway I worked at by spiteyin aww

[–]ximfinity 2 points3 points ago*

Almost all mammals develop an intolerance to lactose as they pass through the adolescent phase of development. This is actually a process where they lose the lactase enzyme production which can metabolize the lactose into simpler sugars like glucose. Naturally from the mother is the only place where milk would be available. In certain regions of the world humans developed a mutation where the intolerance did not develop. which is why there is still a mix of people who are/aren't lactose intolerant.

If you cant break down the lactose it ends up passing through the rest of the digestive track, where the more complex bacteria will break it down through fermentation, which is what causes gas, stomach pains and other non fun symptoms.

I know this as I am lactose intolerant, but I would imagine in cats their digestive tract is much shorter and therefore the symptoms might be more immediate and cause vomiting as well.

Wikipedia link on kittens and providing cow milk suggests that a more complex formula should likely be provided, but again, I have no background knowledge in this and maybe someone with experience can provide expertise.

High mpg cars not allowed in the US by Hummy_Seedin videos

[–]ximfinity 5 points6 points ago

There is actually a combination of factors attributing to the increased cost, i agree that reducing sulphur emission has something to do with the increased cost through the 2000's but tax and subsidies also contribute.

Think about road competition and risk with increased commuting time and quantity vs. payout for a resultant death due to a lighter vehicle and you can see why automakers dont like releasing small, light cars to get sued later for releasing a dangerous car.

Safety is definitely a top reason most people are picking the cars they pick in the states.

This is basically a crackpot theory, basic economics are really driving the car market though, not a huge government conspiracy for gas taxes.

I have a VW Jetta TDI here, I get 45-50 MPG on average, if the car was lightened up I would be getting slightly higher.. These cars are available, but not enough people buy them here to justify investment in the states. Also Safety & Emission requirements are different here causing releasing lighter weight versions of each car. (caused by so many larger gas vehicles on the roadways to contend with along with our major highway systems rather than europes smaller roads and shorter average trip length)

Lastly, diesel is much more expensive here due to oil subsidies that promote cheaper gasoline, which is frustrating to a diesel car owner. This is cause by everyone purchasing Gasoline vehicles. And people like you bitching when the gas prices go up because they might reduce those subsidies.

Its not a huge government conspiracy although you would like to think it is. but more of the government following what the people want based on how they spend their money.

If you are upset, go buy a diesel vehicle, things wont change because you complain about them, they will change when the peoples dollars speak for them.

I really hope this movie goes well. JW could make some great movies given the chance, I'm concerned this script will be too forced. Would have probably preferred Favreau's name attached to this one, he wouldn't suffer if it only does reasonably well.

Brown eyes and blue eyes (Children Session) - Jane Elliott - YouTube by das_mehdiin videos

[–]ximfinity 5 points6 points ago

I guess my point was that I felt like the commentators/Jane Elliott ignored the point the white guy with the red hair was trying to make that forcing racism onto individuals so they know what it feels like isn't a solution to the problem but rather only a social experiment. I think Morgan Freeman has a relevant quote.

edit: Just to clarify, I think there is a valid point made though in each of Jane Elliott's experiments. Similar to many other social experiments.

Although clearly this is a social experiment, it is especially interesting when she kicks out the individual who suggest it is marginalizing to assume that everyone is either an aggressor or a receiver. I think he makes a valid point before being kicked out. I love how the commentator assumes that attitude is because the individual is unwilling to lose power when he specifically asks to be put into the receiving end of the experiment.

Actual meat yield from frozen whole turkey (and stock/broth to boot!) by Whalenin Frugal

[–]ximfinity 2 points3 points ago

Thanks for doing these calculations I had been curious about the $/lb ratio for frozen turkey when cooked considering the inedible parts. $2.12 is certainly good but it seems low and tough to justify for the amount of time required including cleanup time & cost.

It's really not though, apart from being blind, you eat with all of your senses including sight. Your statement is like saying the smell of the food doesn't matter either. I'm sure you would perceive something that smells good, tastes good, not the inverse. Color or vision of the food is equally appetizing.

Regardless, this kind of story is meaningless. there are literal shitloads of bugs within any food.

The Valve Employee Handbook by zakislamin Games

[–]ximfinity 1 point2 points ago

Thats really neat. I'm sure there is a certain amount of groupthink, I'm also certain that if Gabe walked in and said, "Let's make HL3 tomorrow!" they would be up all night finishing it. That said, while everyone has an input, natural levels of respect between individuals still exist to an extent as well as the concept of group think. The new guy probably has a pretty low level of respect with the coworkers, and I still don't think they could jump in and ruin the company with bad decisions.

Its definitely describing more of a workplace where everyone has equal say, therefore the individual has more reason to try to convince others of a strongly believed opinion regarding direction. One person cant steer the car off the road with everyone else holding the wheel.

excellent analysis, I think the arm drawing was made and glued over to make a flap of skin with a bit of adhesive to cover the bottom card as he doesn't directly rub anything off that area.
