New to UI Design by BrandoniusPrimein design_critiques

That is a hard palette to work with. Have you considered working with a darker shade of either red or blue? That would play off of the company colors without looking overly patriotic and cheesy. For instance, a maroon color instead of red. I would personally prefer that to orange.

And, of course, what ever color you do choose, you want to use that color in the logo at the top of the page as well. I'm guessing that you used orange in that graphic intentionally to mirror the color of the text. So, I probably don't need to point that out.

I wouldn't worry too much about AnonJian. He loves to hang out on all the design forums offering nothing of value to anyone but himself and his own sense of self-importance. He doesn't critique work and offer helpful suggestions. He just likes to smugly ridicule everyone and stroke his own ego.

Ironically, he loves to criticize others for how empty and meaningless their designs are, all the while offering mean-spirited insults devoid of any substance whatsoever.

However, on the topic of your layout, I do think the navigation makes a lot of sense. But, I'm not particularly sold on the color scheme. Does the color scheme of this template actually matter? Are these company colors?

I would also point out that "Submit" on the button is misspelled. A simple typo.

I really need ideas for a conference room poster. I am absolutley stuck. by wordpress_novicein Design

This must be done rests only on two things 1) Zero good alternatives. 2) The ludicrous notion you are not a designer -- you are the remote control for PhotoShop.

Both are true. Now what, jackass? Would you suggest I become a loud-mouthed, self-important, douchebag who demands that his ideas be given priority over the preferences of management, or else tell them to take this job and shove it? Such an attitude must have worked for you, since you seem to have spent years honing it. However, even if I did have a better idea, in my situation, I care more about keeping my job than pitching a childish temper tantrum about not being listened to.

But, as I mentioned, I don't actually have any other ideas. That is why I am asking for help from people who are clearly more knowledgeable and creative than me. Yet, instead of providing me with any useful ideas, you found it more meaningful to your sense of superiority and self-importance to berate me and my company.

At no point in your meaningless diatribe did you actually present a good suggestion. You offered hyperbolic insults. The closest you came to actual advice was:

such as an infographic about the friggin' business and its aforementioned excellence.

That's helpful. I find it funny that, in several of your other comments, you berate (no surprise there) others for posting meaningless, generic text on their business website, and that the businesses fail to explain their meaning succinctly or clearly. They simply offer empty platitudes.

The reason I find this so funny is because your "advice" of "an infographic about the friggin' business" is the same type of vapid garbage you claim to be opposed to. So, you're saying that I should have a graphic that represents what the company is about?

Gee. That's really insightful.

Can I use Javascript to automatically switch from an image slideshow to a video playlist? by wordpress_novicein javascript

[–]wordpress_novice[S] 0 points1 point ago

I am not using any javascript libraries, and I don't have anything coded yet. In all honestly, I've never built a javascript slideshow before.

But, I am a pretty quick study.

The only thing I have so far is the embed code for the video playlist, which was provided by my video hosting service. Would that code help at all?

But, as I said, on the slideshow side of this, I have not done anything.

Can I give a co-worker access to only part of the admin tool? by wordpress_novicein Wordpress

[–]wordpress_novice[S] 1 point2 points ago

That plugin worked beautifully! I simply created a new user called "humanresources," set that user to be an "editor," then used Adminimize to limit all "editor" accounts to only access the Job Manager plugin.

The only potential problem that I could see with this is that, if we chose to add more "editors" in the future, we would have to find some other way of restricting access to only Job Manager. Otherwise "editors" won't be able to do anything else except stuff under Job Manager.

But, I don't see that being a problem. With our company, having 1 primary "admin" user account and a "humanresources" user account should be all that they need.

It's too bad that Adminimize doesn't allow restrictions based on user name. Only on user types, such as "editor."

I want to use the same basic header throughout my website, but with slight modifications depending on the page. by wordpress_novicein Wordpress

This may be exactly what I was looking for. I prefer using plugins since they are easier for idiots like me. While I am decent with customizing HTML and CSS, I have no formal training in the field, and my knowledge is limited.

If this plugin is easy to use, it may be my best option. Thanks!

Look at the classes of the body on each page, and set different background images for this part based on the unique classes present on each page.

Hmm...

Can you explain how to do this a bit better? I'm not really even sure what this means.
