The real story behind the rejected TED talk on inequality. by cptjmshookin politics

[–]woot0 0 points1 point ago

He also said it received at best a mediocre response from the audience, then video shows him getting a standing ovation.

So what happens if someone gives a great talk? They storm the stage and rip him to pieces??

I'm also keeping my old white MacBook alive for this reason. I have a defibrillator next to it and mutter "c'mon girl you can make it."

Just a heads up to anyone wanting to buy a Nano just for the watch function by varmanjin apple

[–]woot0 1 point2 points ago

I got the nano for free too and bought a $25 strap from the apple store. I get stopped at least twice a week by people asking me about it. Totally weird but kind of cool sometimes. Personally I don't recommend using it as a watch unless you already have one or you can get one for free at a party/wedding/event, etc. My biggest issue with it as a watch is that it takes a full second to light up so you can see the time.

my ultra-Liberal Representative of California voted no. I positively can't stand her, but maybe she's not all that bad after all.

I had a GMAT instructor couple years ago who was a savant at the test. late 40's year-old dude who would start by telling us "don't go to business school, but since you're not going to listen to me I'll teach you how to do well on the test so you can at least get into the best school possible." The class was on referral only and he never charged anyone even though he said he would. He made all his money from dropshipping and said it was the greatest gig and would constantly be trying to get us to take it seriously. He'd even go into detail how he did it saying it was a much better life than consulting. Any way, no one listened to him. We all thought he was a nutty (brilliant, but nutty) guy and just took the test after we finished the class and went on our way. At first I thought he was the OP b/c he's the exact same personality type but my guy has been doing it much longer.

tl;dr: the one guy I met in person who was a dropshipper would tell everyone to get into it, but sadly knowing full well no one would take him seriously.

you're a rock star. I just want to say that because you're answering so many questions thoughtfully.

Why does coffee make you poop? by multiMurfin askscience

[–]woot0 -1 points0 points ago

Lifetime coffee drinker here. Coffee after it has been ground is only good for a few good days then it starts to go bad. It won't make you sick but it will make you poop. Virtually all grounded coffee you buy in a supermarket will have this effect. If you want to get around this, grind whole coffee beans the morning or the night before you brew a pot. I have no sauce to back this up except for 15 years of number 2's.

Is now a good time to buy a new Macbook Pro? by TomWatersin mac

[–]woot0 6 points7 points ago

Wait, a new macbook pro refresh should come out in < 6months. That's what I and couple of my friends are waiting for. If your old mac is giving you problems, you can upgrade the RAM for $40-ish off the internet.

New study finds 45,000 deaths annually linked to lack of health coverage. Uninsured, working-age Americans have 40 percent higher death risk than privately insured counterparts by allliein science

[–]woot0 1 point2 points ago

depends on what you mean by "sick." I'm in my mid-thirties and have never (knock on wood) had anything Blue Cross would consider a problem. So me getting insurance is easy. However my wife was sick 10 years ago in a category they do consider a problem and her getting health coverage a decade later is insanely difficult, regardless of the fact that she is in incredibly good shape today.
