Flying off to Japan soon by wooniein LearnJapanese

I'm already having lots of fun every single day that I'm learning this language while in school consulting my sensei, revising my Japanese homework, discussing with my friends about how to express something in Japanese, or otherwise. Good advice nonetheless.

But what about the late-night anime? /jokes

I've been learning the language for 2+ years, including 2 semesters of Japanese language modules at my university, but I haven't exactly been doing well with the conversation practices. However, I also feel rather overwhelmed by the fact that I just might be able to gain more experience with the language for this trip.

I've been there once before 1.5 years ago, and at that time, I was there only with reading and listening skills that I've acquired from my JLPT N4 study preparations, and have zero experience with real conversations (and writing) i.e. coming up with what you want to say in your own words in Japanese on the spot. This time, I have 8 months of basic conversation and short-essay writing experience from my university modules. I really hope that I would be able to catch up with the talking speed of the natives there more easily this time.

Also, the last time I was there, it seemed like I used up a lot of energy trying to understand the Japanese that I was hearing and reading, and at the end of the day, I would get so exhausted early in the night that I would go to bed uncharacteristically early, so the part about getting plenty of sleep shouldn't be a problem, I guess. Foreigner in Singapore with Cultural Q's... by Laurlynin singapore

  1. Generally our dinner time is 6-8pm, but Singapore is a food haven - there's really no such thing as a bad time to eat. Don't just go to higher-end restaurants which close early at 9-10.30pm, try recommendations by HungryGoWhere, perhaps wander down to the heartland areas and try coffeeshop food.

Mandarin lessons? by adleyhin singapore

Most of us here were educated in the language in formal education, so we don't know much about private schools. You can probably give Ikoma language school a shot, though it's primarily a Japanese language school.

Wow. I actually recognized the dance moves. It's frequently used by the Japanese in their MADs, like this. Original video here.

My best friend's (and fellow Redditor's) wedding RSVP card by pajamas1in funny

If this were my best friend's wedding invitation, I would definitely tick "regretfully attend" or "enthusiastically decline" (depending), because best friends are meant to insult each other at every shining opportunity.

So how are you guys typing Kanji/Kana? by otherworldsin LearnJapanese

[–]woonie 2 points3 points ago

There's an app which is a 'typing game' that tests your japanese input typing speed using the swiping method, called Miku Flick. Here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/uvOy3.jpg
