Louisville theme park won't offer roller coasters, may delay reopening to 2014 by labcabincaliforniain Louisville

[–]whothefucksaidthat 12 points13 points ago

Oh FFS what's the point of opening the place then? I thought it sucked when there were coasters. Although my experience is pretty out of date.

First of all, this is nothing personal. I really don't care if you benefit from this. I also don't mind you posting something with an intent to benefit. My problem is with the fact that you submitted content that appears on its surface to be purely for community benefit, when in reality there is an ulterior motive. Even if you just want people to be safe and use a DD service, you still submitted the link in that format for personal gain. So while some of your motivation to post this was admirable, it's the other part of your motivation (personal gain) that I have a problem with. If you had informed readers up front that there was a referral program, how you benefited from it, how they could sign up to be a part of it, or even at least had addressed it, I would have said nothing.

And in all fairness, it's not listed in the /r/Louisville rules because posting strictly for personal gain is already addressed in the general Reddit rules (or guidelines if you prefer) in the FAQ under the spam section. Given the fact that you have a year old account with no posting or comment history, you could appear to be a spammer. I'm not saying that you are. Spammers don't typically respond, much less defend themselves. But when the only thing you've posted is an attempt at personal gain, it throws up a red flag. Thus, I posted my comment to figure out the situation. Though I do wish you would have included the relevant information about the referral program up front, I am content to let this stay considering anyone that cares to can read our exchange and get the full story.

Given that this is a referral and reward program that you could be benefiting from, I think full disclosure is in order. Otherwise I will remove this post in the morning.

Best eats near downtown? by rreasonsin Louisville

[–]whothefucksaidthat 3 points4 points ago

Bistro 301 is nice. Couple of blocks away. Doc Crows, very nice. Also a couple of blocks away. Troll Pub Under the Bridge has been pimped quite extensively here. Also only a few blocks away. There are a ton of restaurants within a mile, and most of them (especially on E. Market) are going to be worth a trip.

A reminder about using the *report* button. by whothefucksaidthatin Louisville

[–]whothefucksaidthat[S,M] 4 points5 points ago

I've done this too. More often than I care to admit. For that reason, I normally don't say anything when it's one or two reports. In this instance the original post and every single comment by the OP was reported. It seemed like way too much to be a browsing error, so I just wanted to reiterate since most people on phones also can't see the side bar.

I've seen brilliant work from Mattingly Landscaping (502) 403-0688.

I had a bad experience with Luv-It. They over charged me, 75% of what they planted died within 48 hours, and they didn't do everything they said they were going to do. Just my experience.

Good luck!

If you or the mods find anything 'wrong' or 'libelous' with it

I see nothing wrong with this story. In fact, it's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of when I created this post in the first place. Thank you!

Interesting read about why Native Americans kept their hair long. by whothefucksaidthatin Life

[–]whothefucksaidthat[S] 0 points1 point ago

TL;DR: Native Americans were recruited by the military because of their extraordinary tracking abilities. When their long hair was cut, their abilities were non existent. Some testing ensued. Results were consistent. Think Sampson and Delilah.

I went in shortly after they opened about 12 years ago (or so?) expecting an astonishing experience. Sometimes, when I go to a steakhouse I order my steak Pittsburgh. AKA Chicago-style Rare or Black and Blue. It means the steak has been placed on an excruciatingly hot surface and seared about 1/4 inch in while the center remains damn near raw. I have never had a problem ordering this in a steakhouse.

My steak comes out medium with no char on the outside. So I send it back. The chef comes out with a poorly cooked rare steak and gives me some bumblefuck excuse about there being multiple "degrees of doneness" with Pittsburgh. I sent that one back too. They never did get it right. I ended up eating the third steak which was passably medium rare.

My biggest problem with Pat's is the side dishes. Their steaks are fantastic. Hands down some of the best. But then they serve a bunch of canned crap on the side, and it really brings down the entire experience, IME.

What do you think about Louisville cops? Really? by NunnSonin Louisville

[–]whothefucksaidthat 3 points4 points ago

I've had multiple experiences with pretty much every police force in and around Jefferson County. LMPD has its fair share of good, honest, respectable cops that go out there every day and lay it on the line. That being said, there are plenty of asshole cops on LMPD. Cops that treat you like shit and have some type of superiority complex. Stereotypical cops.

State Troopers act like they're in the Marine Corps. I've rarely encountered one that was anything less than a festering bag of crap in terms of attitude. I have encountered some nice ones, but they seem to be the exception.

If you get pulled over by a J.C. Sheriff, you have really fucked up. They rarely pull anyone over. Otherwise, in my experience they tend to be some of the easiest cops to deal with.

Audubon Park cops are the worst. These glorified meter maids will pin anything and everything they can on you. Do yourself a favor, don't speed on Poplar Level Road, Preston Highway, or any street bordering or in Audubon Park. In fact, unless you live there, just stay away from Audubon Park. They've been known to pull people over for cutting through from Preston to Poplar level at night for looking "suspicious."

J-Town cops are the "out to pasture" cops. They are (or at least were) the highest paid police force in the state. Their main job is to monitor industrial and commercial sites and babysit the movie theaters. They can be complete assholes, but IME only fuck with people when they've done something to attract that attention.

St. Matthews Cops are pretty much the red headed step children of the Louisville Metro area police forces. They're virtually useless because their response time is far too long, but they get completely butthurt when LMPD steps into their jurisdiction. The semi-friendly rivalry between the old County police and City police was at least put aside when calls came in, but SMPD can be real assholes about their jurisdiction. Plus it seems like half of them don't know what the speed limit is in any given part of St. Matthews. I actually had to walk a cop back to the sign that proved I wasn't speeding. Then he claimed he was just "testing" me. ಠ_ಠ

Sources: Was originally a criminal justice major. Know lots of cops on lots of police departments. Know lots of people in other areas of law enforcement in Louisville. Have been around the law enforcement community since I was a kid.
