If Protestantism came from Catholicism, why are there still Catholics?

I'm sorry, but those wings made it go from bad-ass to comical, I nearly laughed when I saw them.

Next time I see someone I don't like at a bar, I know just how to be mean to them.

See, I never noticed it was rerouted to that stupid s-curve. I think that s-curve might've been there before I moved here (last March). I did, however, wonder about that tower being built, but I never remembered to look it up when I was later at home, especially since I most often noticed it when leaving home.

I'm not sure I've ever even watched a local channel, to be honest. I'm really not ever near a TV in SF. I don't read newspapers either. I guess I'm a bit surprise—now—that I haven't read anything about it online, but I just haven't happened to come across any news pertaining to it, so yes, somehow I've managed to live under a rock since moving here.

I think it's always going to boil down to relativity and context. In some cases, it might be more right to do X first, in others Y.

The only reason I suggested that one should address their own issues before trying to fix others', was to avoid hypocrisy. For example, a parent trying to tell another parent how to raise their kids because the second parent's kid is bullying other kids at school, even though the first parent's children bully their younger siblings. If the first parent's children are bullies and they aren't doing anything about it, then they really have no place to talk. Or, say the US were to condemn China for its many infringements on human rights, when there are many documented cases of human rights violations within and sponsored by the US itself. That would just be pure hypocrisy.

But in both these situations, and I would guess most, I think the very best approach would be to try to solve both X and Y instead of just one at a time. But provided that there are only enough resources to tackle one at a time, I think it'd usually make the most sense to tackle the most local problem, and afterwards you'll be better suited to helping with the more broad problems.

Yeah, you nailed it, I've only been here for barely more than a year. And this subreddit is probably my greatest source of local news, since I don't have TV and my RSS feeds have a billion unread stories.

Well to be honest, I never noticed it extended all the way to Oakland, I only noticed the construction near Treasure Island.

What? Is it hard to believe that someone could pass the construction and wonder what it's for?

I've been wondering what that construction was! Now I know it's another bridge, but to where?

Edit: Nevermind, looked it up, seems like they're upgrading The Oakland Bay Bridge.

A German man who alleges he was subjected to "extraordinary rendition" by the CIA has taken his case to the European Court of Human Rights. by Hansamanin worldnews

[–]whoadave 4 points5 points ago

That's a good point, if he gets Macedonia to admit to their mistake, it adds more weight to his allegations against the CIA, and perhaps will give him more to work with in seeking some semblance of justice.

Sure, but I think it's fairly reasonable to expect that one should address their own issues before making it their business to fix others' issues.

Because like, God works in mysterious ways, yo. We could never understand how the things we think aren't good, are actually good in his eyes. He always has a reason and a porpoise for whatever, man, even if they suck for us.

I just focus on the center for it to slow down, then focus on the outside and it speeds up. Because the outside dots are covering more distance on the x and y axes from our perspective, while the center dots mainly travel across the z axis, so they don't appear to be going as fast as the outer dots.

Whenever Vlad the Impaler's brought up, I'm always reminded of Elizabeth Bathory, since they were related. Now she was quite the monster, inspiring many black metal songs even.
