I live in new jersey. In the early 2000's hurricane Floyd hit or area. Prior to that they were adding ont a nearby highway, and one of the pillars holding up one of the overpasses was apparently built right in the middle of this creek which also happened to run right in my backyard.

So im downstairs in the basement talking to my brother about super Mario 3, when our cat jumps down from the washing machine and we hear a splash. There's water in the basement. Not much, but enough to tell mom about. She calls dad and he gets home from work just before that creek in the backyard completely overflows, bringing in a huge wave of water coming across the backyard. We close the door and lock it as tight as we can. But under the pressure of 4 feet of water, the door burst open letting in a surge of water into the basement. At that point we abandon the basement, but the circuit breaker is soon to be submerged in water. Right before we leave the house completely my dad makes the idiotic, yet brave move of swimming down to turn off a fully submerged circuit breaker. Probably saved what was left of our house, but could have easily killed him.
