I lived in the countryside in Western Mass for a summer one year and there were bugs everywhere at night. My house was on a very dark patch of road, so I would leave the porch light on sometimes when I would go out for a ride at night. Unfortunately, that meant bugs would be all over the place by the time I got home, so I would open the door and they would all come fluttering into the doorway with me. To try and fix the problem, I bought those tacky strips and hung one from the ceiling on the porch, right near the light.

After about three hours on the first night, I went outside to see what I had managed to snag, but to my horror, the entire strip was covered and crawling with bugs. There were bugs on the ground below, just covered in enough sticky goo to spell the end for them, but not enough to keep them attached with their brethren. Horrified, I quickly switched off the light, only for that strip to like up like a mother effin christmas tree. It was covered in lightning bugs, and the ground beneath was as well. I felt disgusted with myself and quickly yanked the strip from the ceiling, sending even more of them crashing to the ground as I tossed the strip into the bushes. The strip pulsated with lights from the bugs and the porch was covered in little twinkling bodies, so I grabbed the heavy welcome mat and started trying to sweep them off, only to realize that I was just smearing their bodies all over the porch because they were sticking to the mat, being covered in goo and all. By the time I was finished, I had glowing goo on my hands, my shoes, and the porch was covered. I threw the mat in the bushes and ran upstairs crying and the lights stayed off on the porch for the rest of the summer.
