Massachusetts attacks! by under30votedNOin Albany

[–]under30votedNO[S] 0 points1 point ago

When i was much younger, a neighbor made a movie about the distant future that had a throwaway line about Governor Howard Stern, a late 20th century New York State governor who declared war on Massachusetts and lost.

Yes, i was a member of the vast minority. Still bugs me that our union used much of our dues to pimp the VOTE YES campaign so much. Lets see how many people regret their votes come January's SAGE comittee recomendation of agency consolidation.

Even if your time line was "correct," which it isn't- no mention of Summer layoff threats, remember "This is only the first wave" or the layoffs Patterson made (goodbye DOT graphic arts department and engineering research) you're still insisting that Cuomo give his rich friends tax breaks. Disguise his motives any way you want. He's making the middle class pay for the economic hardships the state faces.

I'm still failing to understand why you're saying my timeline is false. Why is it imcombent upon state-workers to bear the brunt of the reccession while giving millionares tax breaks?

He alone controls the fate of close to 3,500. He say's we need lay-offs, 3,500 get notices before he negotiates with PEF. Begins negotiations, lay-offs rescinded. PEF votes down contract, 3,500 get notice again of lay-offs. Cuomo goes back to table, lay-offs rescinded again.

Cuomo sure does enjoy toying with the emotions of those he said he would lay-off.

you can't have it both ways. Upon submission you're saying laying off bureaucrats bad, but here you're also saying bureaucracy bad.

The scheduled raise for the next 3 years is still intact.

Citation? I am unaware of any scheduled raises, unless you are refering to step increases? I'm in favor of eliminating them and hiring at the Job Rate opposed to Hiring Rate.

Lay-offs would have been neccessary upon SAGE commission recomendations, which were not protected against in the proposed contract.

THERE IS NO RAISE! We voted no to stand up to the bully. Had the contract passed there would still have been lay-offs.

I wholeheartedly disagree with everything you have said.

State Employees, by and large, are greedy enough to vote for a raise rather than keeping people employed. Greedy enough to look at a situation where there isn't enough money and try to grab for more.

First off, gross misinterpretation. We didn't vote for a raise we voted against the contract that Prince Cuomo dictated to us. PEF President Ken Brynien should've resigned yesterday, he bent over and took what Cuomo gave him. There were no negotiations.

It is shameful that people who cannot be fired and aren't at all afraid of losing their job will vote to sacrifice other working people just so they can have a raise for the next few years... whether or not they deserve it.

WE WEREN'T OFFERED A RAISE; HOW COULD WE HAVE VOTED FOR ONE?

It's the single-income families I'm worried about. It's not some other kids fault that their mother or father is going to be laid off because they were hired last.

how noble. Maybe if we reinforced social safety nets people would not face impending financial peril.

Let me tell you, there are lots of people who don't do anything and/or are terrible at their job. But they have 0 risk of being fired because they were hired so long ago. It's these people who voted no.

Lot's of people are bad at their jobs. Look at Wall Street, they get golden parachutes for screwing over the global economy.

I know of 7 NYS Employees, in the office i work in, under 35. 5 of us voted against the contract. Why? We are most likely out first. Because this dictate is 2 years too long. No other state in the North East had a worse contact. Most were 3 years, some 4, no other 5 year. A vote for the contract still left wiggle room for the SAGE commission to dictate layoffs.

Remember, this is Cuomo dictating layoffs, not you're fellow workers.
