TROPHY CASE

  • Two-Year Club

This year for my birthday, if my friends asked me what I wanted, I said "your favorite book". Here's some of the loot. by HlynurBjornin books

I have a curious story about that book: I didn't enjoy it much. I prefer other kinds of books, the kind of books that talk about what the author feels when he looks into the mirror, the kind that are mocked by Reverte in the first paragraph of Club Dumas, but I wanted to give a book of a Spanish author to an American friend who likes bestsellers. I thought this book would be good: it was a best seller in Spain and it isn't "one of those books". And... my friend told me he couldn't read because it was too intellectual.

It was a well though gift, thinking in the other person's likes, not mine, and I had to look for it in several bookshops... only to fail miserably.

There's lot of people that have read the book and have enjoyed it, I'm sure.

I read it in 2005, well passed the 30s and in English, not my native language. I didn't like it because I don't like cynicism and I find wit empty. However, my girlfriend has read it several times because she can connect with that distance that Holden feels from the world. That's how some people feel (I know, because I have felt like that) and the book marvelously captures that way of being. I think that a book that achieves that is a worthy book.

It's a pity that you haven't find people that can explain that to you.

Everybody hates Feint, I know, but what is your opinion about Scoreloop? by ttelephonein Android

[–]ttelephone[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for your detailed response. It's a valid and an interesting point of view.

However, I think that the social part, playing with others, is also something that is the nature of games and it's also a valid way of enjoying them. My game is a very simple word game and I can see that people want to play against others: they've began to post their scores in Google Play reviews!

The point about outsourcing the billboards is also valid, but, as an independent and just-for-fun developer, it would be too much trouble to implement it myself, for no practical gain that I can see.

Anyway, thanks again for your explanation.

Asking in stackoverflow can also help you. You know, it's another feature they have, in addition to reading other people's questions :-)

I'm just repeating a feeling that I have found once and again here.

You don't need to create an account: it logs you automatically with a unique identifier.

I'm thinking in using it in my game so that people can compete against other people. I think it may make the game more attractive for some players.

Scoreloop is similar to Feint, but it doesn't require the pop up at the beginning. I see it as lees intrusive.

In Spain, half-a-million illegal migrants stand to lose health coverage by rolmosin worldnews

The nationals have safety networks (family, friends, more help from the Spanish state) and can avoid working for slavery salaries. People without that safety network, that are running away from hunger, AIDS or wars, take whatever they can. The worst jobs are done by immigrants.

Gijón, that's an odd selection for Semana Santa. How did you find it compared to other places in Spain?

I use Bugsense, and I didn't know about that possibility of notification. I have to look into it.

I also have the new version message and the e-mail encouragement, but I haven't had much luck with it. Maybe I should try the e-mail intent directly in the preferences screen.

In most of Spain (all except the region of Asturias) it's not legal to drink alcohol until the age of 18. It is not highly enforced, but the law is that.

I'm enjoying right now Angry Words (Apalabrados). It looks like a Words with Friends clone.

Although you've been downvoted, I think you make a very interesting question. Some have gave you some general answers. Here's a concrete example: lack of unsigned is one of the things that make JGit slower than Git.

I don't give a bad rating to an app when the lack apps2sd. However, on my non rooted Desire, 500 KB is significant: it means that I have to uninstall another app to install this one.

Is there any reason why the developer doesn't add the required line in the Manifest for allowing apps2sd?

It depends on how much you value your job. It could be argued that leaving your parents to age alone to pursuit your job it's very selfish. Is family more important than work or the other way round? Is there only a right answer to this question?

The Other Reason Europe Is Going Broke by MYGODWHATHAVEIDONEin economy

From the article:

Europe played a remarkably small role in the computer and Internet revolutions. (On the other hand, Estonia, with less than two million people, gave the world Skype.)

Hum, I guess that the world wide web, which was created at CERN (an institution funded by several European states), is not important, at least, less important than Skype. Every day you learn something...
