TROPHY CASE

Why is our blinking synchronized between both eyes? by AmericanDerpin askscience

[–]tsumnia 5 points6 points ago

This may be speculation/anecdotal, for which I apologize.

During a baby version of my thesis, we modelled eyes blinking while the subjects told either a truth or lie. The goal was to have a computer identify people based on facial expressions. We recorded individuals with at 100 frames per second to capture subtle micro-expressions.

Interestingly, while I was going through labelling each face, I noticed a large portion of the people (30% but that only translates to 4 people for the group) were blinking asynchronously during a lie.

If I were to continue for my PhD, this would be one of the areas I'd like to explore a little more (that is, are asynchronous blinks an indication of lying or fabricating the truth).

Making visually appealing graphs with matplotlib by Zeylanemain Python

[–]tsumnia 1 point2 points ago

Not necessarily a coding trick like to have someone look at graph post-creation and asking them if they can understand what I'm trying to explain with it. As for general aesthetics, do the same. The simple 'Does this look nice?' question will always give support. A follow-up to that would be to swing by /r/Design and ask for some input.

Does anyone have any real life aikido stories to share? by kyu87in aikido

Utilizing the pinky is AWESOME for handcuffing. Go Nikyo like normal, but instead of basing the hand on the shoulder, pull on the pinky for extra give.

My instructor does a whole series of Aiki-base law enforcement classes; if I can remember to ask him for his cuffing technique, I'll pass it to you.

Was this in Atlanta like two weeks ago? I was at AWA's seminar that was the same weekend.

But that brings up the scenarios of taking the knees out of the technique. It sounds, though, that we might have different schools of thought, so we could argue til the cats come home.

I slightly disagree, but granted, I'm no Shioda. Nikyo can and cannot hurt based on uke's response. Knee buckling/unhinging, in my opinion, it a means to reduce the pressure (actively or reactively) of the nikyo. If you stand and take it, its going to hurt; but buckling can relieve the pressure.

Now, there might be subtle things I'm missing, but when the knees are removed from the equation (sarawaza or in bjj), the uke's body has less space to relieve the pressure.

Learning the subtlies is why we keep on going to class!

I'm thinking we run through the rest of the tewaza before moving into techniques. I'll definitely try my best to contribute since I've been helping teach classes for the past few months.

In case you don't particularly like Nikyo's getting applied on your wrist, a quick way to relieve some pressure is to turn your hips into nage. It doesn't stop all the pain, but reduces it a nice portion.

OH MAN! The Gokyo counter is against a mounted keylock. When they've got it applied, roll and grab your wrist, but push down on their hand with your pinned arm. Your grabbing hand's bicep should be trapping their arm and apply pressure.

So far I've only tricked other white belts into going for it, but I want to see if I can start baiting some upper belts.

What are some of the ways you are getting into it? In BJJ, I've started to find wrists locks of pushing on the back of the hand (Ikkyo) and pushing back on the palm (Gokyo). I've tried to find some Nikyo locks when someone grabs the collar, but with only marginal success.

How much would you expect from this type of job? by tsumniain mturk

[–]tsumnia[S] 0 points1 point ago

Sadly, my time is stretched thin from work as is; I'm looking to filter some of my should-be savings into this.

Ideally, if I could manage ~1000 images per demographic, I'd be ecstatic (now, $.50 a turk makes my wallet cry).

A way I think I could filter some Google Image Search guys is to require front and profile pictures; but that requires more effort and limits my ability to accept pictures from the wild (an otherwise acceptable picture with background 'noise').

Additional question: would limiting jobs to specific criteria work/be allowed (ie, a job for only Indian participants ages 40-49)?

Reverse imaging would definitely be necessary. I've also thought about asking places like reddit and would need to factor in people who just wanted to send rage faces.

As for the demographic, offering 'higher' rates for ethnicities not filled up could entice a response, but again, money. Honestly getting a large Indian response would be awesome, as it is sort of a minority in traditional datasets. My only concern I think would be age.

Trying to break from the 20-something age group is hard considering they are tech-savvy and a lot of dataset are primarily students getting extra credit.

Nice work! I thought about attempting this for my thesis; wound up doing recognition of people based on facial movements.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations Multiplayer Mayhem - Episode 6 by OlaNysin gaming

I'll be honest, Auzzie's tactics introduced me to his Hitman videos back in the day and are the primary reason I picked up the series back in the Steam sale. I like his videos, I like his commentary, and I'm glad Reddit has a community that upvotes them so I can know when they come out.

After Hitman, his other videos didn't surface as often, then exploded again again with this multiplayer. When I saw his first one I initially thought "he's still doing videos?" and was actually happy to see it could be a recurring thing without beating a storyline.
