What are your favourite cover songs that don't just mimic the original? by goodbadnomadin AskReddit

James Taylor's cover of "Up On The Roof." Could never stand the original - but his is slower, reflective, very moving, and I've always loved it.

Just out of curiosity, what is your biggest criticism of aSoIaF? by jobeavsin asoiaf

Characters launching into obsessively long recitations of ancient history / backstory that may or may not have anything to do with anything. (Suggestion: GRRM should suspend work on next book and do a 1500-page "prequel" with all that backstory for those who really care. No, just kidding.)

Fans of Mr. Martin's writing, have any of you read Fevre Dream? by tieranosaurin asoiaf

As a recent 'convert' to ASOIAF, I was given Fevre Dream by my sons. Thought it was great. I'm not a vampire fan by any means, but GRRM's twists on the vampire 'world' were very creative, and the time/place/setting were also. Highly recommended.

Ditto others who've said: if it doesn't spring from within you, you just don't have it. Doesn't make you bad or awful; it's just how you are. Not everyone is cut out for this (thank God). I've published 12 novels and 3 non-fiction books plus 50+ other works of fiction and nonfiction, and have determined that I'm not cut out for it, either.

Help me former smokers! by willow1014in AskReddit

I quit a heavy habit for the first time when 24, went back when 31, quit again at 37. I'm now 21 years smoke free. For me, there were no crutches that helped and I tried all that were available at the time: lozenges, etc. I was a fucking madman for the first 30 days; how I held it together I don't know. It was pure simple white-knuckle gut-it-out. Then it lets go (mostly). No cravings since then; still an occasional twinge. . . . Wish I had a pixie-dust solution for you but I know of none personally. Good luck.

Why do some homosexuals embrace Christianity when the bible states you should be killed? by Zhoulin AskReddit

[–]tractorguy 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Another way to look at it is: Why do hard right 'Christians' (practicing Jesus-Free Christianity) accept (or at least tolerate) gay people in their churches when the Bible, which they explicitly state is the unfiltered word of God and must be obeyed as written, says things like the Leviticus quote?
