TROPHY CASE

WTW for the rhythm of words or a phrase by cheeseybeesin whatstheword

[–]tortured_brain 2 points3 points ago

According to Dictionary.com, cadence is the "rhythmic flow of a sequence of sounds or words". It has nothing to do with intonation and pitch.

But it looks like you've already found your word.

Edit: I should've kept reading... #5: "a slight falling in pitch of the voice in speaking or reading, as at the end of a declarative sentence." So, yeah. You're right.

Edit #2: Ack! You beat me to it!

Milquetoast, from Caspar Milquetoast. It means "a very timid, unassertive, spineless person, especially one who is easily dominated or intimidated."

I know I could/should just walk away, BUT...

Filburt didn't win the O-Town lottery-- he won a chance to compete on a TV game show called Mega Spin. (Imagine an entire game show based around the "Big Wheel" segment of The Price Is Right.)

A commercial for the show aired at the restaurant where he was eating and announced him as "the next Mr. Lucky", only moments before he opened a fortune cookie and received the pictured fortune.

That's gotta be it. The Wikipedia article even cited the Cracker Jack toy example you mentioned.

Thanks.

Is there a name for these types of things? I remember when I was a kid (in the 80s) I had one that from one angle would show K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider, and from another angle it would show The Hoff.

If modern consoles are practically PCs, why is it so hard for them to play previous generations' games? by Sconathonin Games

Actually the earliest PlayStation 3 models achieved backward compatibility, not through software emulation, but by having the PlayStation 2 hardware inside the consoles.

Guillermo Del Toro says Prometheus has "killed any chance" of him making "At The Mountains of Madness" by JiggleBiscuitsin horror

"Gundam_Ez8" raises this point further down the page, but Del Toro disagrees:

Both movies seem to share identical set pieces and the exact same BIG REVELATION (twist) at the end. I won't spoil it.

The phrase "deceptively simple" comes to mind, but it may or may not be what you're looking for.

What killed it for me was that many instances of "spookiness" were preceded by a low, dull roar. (The upstairs window -- both times -- the lighting fixture, Houston in the hallway, the mist in the tunnels...) I felt that this completely robbed the scenes of any shock/surprise potential. It was basically announcing, "Hey guys! Something spooky's about to happen!"

It's My Party and I'll Die if I Want too - Just heard of this today, anyone see it? Is it worth watching? by SaintMortin horror

[–]tortured_brain 1 point2 points ago

No one else is commenting, so I thought I'd chip in my two cents. Basically, it's an easy way to burn a couple of hours if you're drunk and bored on a Friday night; otherwise, it is entirely skippable.

The first thing you'll notice is that the entire thing looks like it was shot on someone's cell phone camera. The production value is very low-budget. Also, and I believe the Geekscape article mentioned this, but the lighting leaves a lot to be desired.

The acting is "OK". Not terrible, but not great either. And the soundtrack is absolutely horrible -- although the film nearly redeemed itself by setting the final climactic battle between the heroine and the monster to Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven".

The strongest point of the movie, in my opinion, is the gore which is, for the most part, very in-your-face (none of that "implied / off-camera violence" stuff) and fairly well done. Unfortunately, the afore-mentioned lighting issues obscure the gore at several key moments in the film and prevent it from being fully appreciated.

Other than that, there's not much I can say that wasn't already covered in the article you linked. Although, strangely, the article completely failed to mention a guest appearance by Tom "Sex Machine" Savini. (Not much of a spoiler; his name is in the opening credits!)

To recap: Check it out if you're bored and/or curious. Otherwise, in my opinion, you're not really missing anything.
