Haha I don't know man. I obviously don't even know this is true, but if it isn't, saying so isn't helpful. I know it sounds like the right thing to listen to her, bit depending on the situation she might just be too scared to act and really needs someone like you to make that tough choice.

I'm going to tell you what I would do, but I'll admit that it isn't the best course of action: I'd kick the living shit out of that guy, no questions. Then I'd call 911 saying that he tried to rape my friend and now he'll need an ambulance, leaving out the part where this attempt was a day ago.

EDIT: I wouldn't lie if asked when it happened, but I wouldn't say that I had 12 or so hours to meditate until they explicitly asked. This gives them enough time to get pissed off at the guy before having to get pissed off at me.

EDIT2: I just read your EDIT2 and will say this: if it's her word against his, all other things equal, she will win. Law enforcement will very heavily favor the victim and with good reason. People deny raping someone more often than people pretend they were raped.

Happy cake day! I cold grab one, but would illustrate the problem not necessarily show what's causing it, right? The stream would come out off-center, surely, because of how my recent shots are going, but I don't see how it would tell me what's causing the issue. Correct me if I am wrong.

I use an OE Pharos (which admittedly has a much larger burr so grinding 18g at espresso is only ~50 revolutions) but I can say that it's not all that annoying to grind by hand. It's time-consuming, definitely, but not terrible. It gets a little redundant when I'm plowing through a 5lb bag of Red Bird Espresso trying to get used to my new lever machine, but it's just so much more satisfying when I'm finished with an, albeit shitty, espresso shot.

EDIT: All that said, I almost bought (and would love to own) a Versalab M3. The main reason I bought the Pharos was the fact that I can only have 1 appliance in the barracks next year, so I needed a manual grinder. $1400 of savings didn't hurt either, obviously.

You're confusing "preparation" with "planning". Yes, sharpening an axe is preparation, but it's a stand-in for planning in this analogy. Similar quotes:

Aeropress ratios vary immensely depending on the method you use, and there are easily hundreds. Check out the World Champ site, or specifically their recipes page (I love Alex's and Jeff's recipes, but that's mostly because I hate inverted)

Besides that, ratio is a tough way to judge if a drink is going to over or underextract. Bean surface area and temperature are much more important (but you're probably aware of that). A fairly short ristretto can end up being close to 1:1 by weight, for example.
