In wake of a romance between a Jewish cashier and a Palestinian bagger, Israeli grocery store keeps Arab baggers and Jewish cashiers apart. by kevinn00bin worldnews

"I’m pleased by the steps Rami Levi has taken. The Arabs don’t particularly like this [interreligious relationships] either, and it seems that Rami Levi understands the problem. The worker was fired and will not return. You need a whip to teach people a lesson after something like this happens.”

Yeah, that really sounds like an "island of Palestinian-settler coexistence" there.

As a non American, I cannot understand why anyone would ever vote for the US Republican party. Can someone explain this to me? by Silversunsin politics

Yeah, I'm going to have to stick with elliam here. To call these examples of "broken promises" seem mostly rhetorical.

Banking bailout - passed under Bush administration, before Obama even took office

Repeal Bush tax cuts - have you been paying attention to U.S. politics at all? Republicans have stonewalled Obama's ever possible at tax increases/expiration. There has hardly been a change in Obama's position here.

Urge states to treat same sex couples with full equality. - He's pushed for repeals of both DOMA and Don't Ask Dont Tell - the two main anti-gay federal policies. I dont know exactly what you expected him to do with respect state laws, over which he has no power.

Close tax loopholes - In my mind, I am playing a Jon Stewart style clip of the hundreds of times Obama has spoken out about his desire to close the tax loopholes you mentioned. Its completely disingenuous to suggest that Obama has changed positions here.

Israel/Palestine - Obama has been weak, but there's hardly been a change in position here either. Frankly, its hard seeing how things could have played out any differently given the lack of political will even from his own party and the complete lack of engagement from either Israel or Palestine with respect to pursuing negotiations.

...etc, etc. Yes, not every campaign promise has received the same level of follow through, but other than Guantanamo and the Patriot Act (which I will grant, have been extremely disappointing), these represent at most changes in priorities rather than changes in position.

Some questions about suit care... by TossedRightOutin malefashionadvice

That depends entirely on the construction of the suit. Suits that are fused will slowly loose shape every time they are heated (either through dry cleaning or steaming). Fusing = glue so do the math.

President Obama, in speech on Middle East policy, tells Israel to pull back to its 1967 borders and allow for creation of self-governing Palestinian state by drqxxin politics

[–]thundercut 2 points3 points ago

Not quite; The US-Israeli position has always been significantly more equivocal. Although the there has been agreement in theory about a "two state solution" and the physical location of the borders between the two states, there has never been a consensus on how, when, and under what terms such solution would be implemented. Until Thursday, the U.S. position had been that the Palestinian goal of a state based on the 1967 borders, with agreed land swaps, should be "reconciled with Israel's desire for a secure Jewish state through negotiations." Source.

Israel, with tacit (- who am I kidding? explicit -) support from the United States, has relied on this position in its attempts to force Palestine to the negotiating table on its own terms. Israel, for its part would like force the Palestinians to concede on as many issues a possible before committing to the "agreed upon" borders. While this has been going on for a long time, it is at the heart of the current deadlock in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Obama offer as significant shift by parting with Tel Aviv's position in favor of addressing border issues at the outset and leaving the other two "wrenching and emotional" core issues of conflict—Jerusalem and refugees—for a subsequent stage." Source

TLDR; There is almost no question that this represents a subtle, yet significant shift in U.S. policy towards Israel.

This is really besides the point. Obama somehow got Healthcare legislation passed, DADT repealed, etc., etc., etc. even though all legislation is "controlled entirely by Congress." The issue that was raised, and legitimate one, is whether Obama will actually attempt to exert any influence to change the status quo besides a few lines in a speech.

Bonobos has 'Dress Shirts' and 'Oxfords'. I thought Oxfords were dress shirts? by callmetwanin malefashionadvice

[–]thundercut 17 points18 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There is an awful lot of misinformation floating around in this thread. Oxford refers to a the type of weave that is used to produce the shirting fabric. It has nothing to do with the style of shirt, the color, the pattern, button down collars or anything else. The traditional Oxford weave is a basket weave that creates a fabric that has somewhat of a coarse texture. As a result, this may be considered less "formal" than fabric produced from other weaves (e.g. twill, herringbone, end-on-end, dobby, etc.). Royal Oxford or Pinpoint Oxford are variations on the Oxford weave that are smoother, less coarse and therefore "dressier" than the traditional Oxford.

Good suggestions so far. Add some madras button up shirts and seersucker shorts and you'll look like a regular. If you are looking for brand advice, casual wear from Brooks Brother or J. Press will cover a lot of what you are looking for.

Skinny guy simply cannot get shirts to fit by Spunge14in malefashionadvice

I have to disagree with both of these comments. Having shirts taken in by a tailor will not give you a fit anywhere nearly as good as you will get from MTM. There seems to be a belief that tailors will somehow be able to perform miracles, but the reality is that a tailor can only make minor adjustments once a garment is already constructed. I have done both ways, and the fit from taking a store bought shirt to the tailor has never been as good as even a mediocre MTM fit.

Good MTM shirts will run you around $75-$95, but you will be getting shirts that are made from scratch to fit your body and better quality fabric that is designed to last. If you are willing to spend $50-65 for a half decent RTW and another $15-20 to get it tailored, then its basically a no brainer.

Buy yourself half a dozen made to measure shirts and spend your days worrying about something else (like jeans).

Search the forums at askandyaboutclothes.com and styleforum.net. They have tons of this sort of info. The best quality to price ratio can usually be found in HK. Cheaper prices can probably be found in Thailand, but either way, try a recommendation for the name of a specific tailor - there are a lot of tourist traps out there.

They look awesome. I just ordered a pair of these in burgundy: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/product_6490369_1_40000000001_-1?top_category=120552

They look very similar, although it looks like yours may be a bit slimmer through the front of the shoe.

Got my first modern Tailor shirt. How did I do? by menacelin malefashionadvice

The sleeves are also too short. The sleeves should completely cover your wrist and when unbuttoned should extend to the top of the "V" between your thumb and forefinger.

You also need a tighter armhole measurement and a slimmer bicep measurement (if they have one).
