CCP is now accepting beta registrations for Dust 514 by rtheonein Eve

Fair enough, I did not want to come off as judgmental. I was just surprised that you had not known about the PS3 exclusivity.

You just now learned that DUST was PS3 only? I thought the year+ of rage would have gotten to even the least informed people by now...

Dad used to be a game dev, this has been kicking around the house for a long time. by Jidgetin gaming

I played HW years ago and switched to Eve soon after Eve went live. (I still play.) While HW still holds a special place in my heart, Eve has satisfied the "kill space fleets" need for me.

As far as the monthly fee goes, once you are able to make a decent income (much easier than it appears) you can pay for your sub with in-game money. I have not paid with my own IRL cash for Eve in almost 2 years.

Everyone in the neighborhood probably hates me now by EvilDrReefin fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]thisurlnotfound 0 points1 point ago

Not even that. Even lukewarm water will crack a windscreen on a cold morning. I live outside of Boston, MA, I have to scrape my windows every morning in the winter. Water (even windshield washer fluid once the engine warms up) is bad.

Absolutely do not do this unless you really enjoy having your windshield replaced after it cracks/spiderwebs.

Actually, our rails DON'T suck. We have the best rail-freight system in the world. (China's quickly catching up and possibly already passed US.) Passenger rail is not a priority for the US, freight is. Fact is, outside the NEC, your TV will ride in a better more modern train on its way to the store than most passengers on their morning commutes.

What is the "normal" corp tax rate in 0.0? by DeadGuyAlein Eve

[–]thisurlnotfound 1 point2 points ago

My 0.0 corp has 10% most of the time. We will have 0% weekends where we will go out a whore as much ISK as possible. During times of conflict where the corp wallet might be strained because of ship replacements, it'll hit 25%. However, during CTAs and major battles, corp tax goes to 100% to encourage people to stop ratting and join fleet.

r/boston, a friend of mine just had the hard drive in her computer die. Where can she take it? by BostonPhotoTouristin boston

[–]thisurlnotfound 2 points3 points ago

At work we use a company called Ontrack. It's ::very:: expensive to recover data from a hardware failure drive.

If the OS has become corrupted and it just wont boot, try a Linux live CD and see about pulling data off that way.

One quick test you can do is see if the drive can even be seen in the BIOS. (Most BIOS, just hit DEL or F2 right as the computer boots. (Dell, hit F12 and choose BIOS from boot selection)) If the drive is not seen in the BIOS, you're pretty boned.

Also, always always always always make backups. Save to a USB drive, DropBox, DVD, anything. Hard drives fail all the time. They have moving parts and anything with moving parts will eventually fail.

40% off Anno 2070 on Steam this weekend - is it worth it? by cwwin tycoon

[–]thisurlnotfound 6 points7 points ago

Here's my thoughts after just buying the game:

The game is great. Decent city builder and story. Decent combat. It seems to be the love child of a one night stand between SimCity and Command And Conquer.

All that said, getting the game to initially run requires a lot of DRM hoops to jump through. I can live with the 3 machine activation limit, however the Ubisoft launcher that Steam installed would crash everytime on my Windows 7 x64 machine. I had to google the error and find an updated version of the Ubisoft launcher from Ubisoft's forums in order to get the game to actually play. Why Steam does not have the updated launcher, I have no idea.

Here's the link to the launcher I had to use: http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orbit/launcher_installer/UbisoftGameLauncherInstaller.exe

So this is pretty disgusting by -ismin Eve

[–]thisurlnotfound 1 point2 points ago

Yep, that's cheaper than a fitted Nyx. To be honest, if you did have 25b to buy votes with at 10M ISK a pop, the problem you'll have is finding enough people. Seriously. Even spamming Jita every 5 minutes for days on end might net you 1500 people. You would need to spam adverts and put in a ton of effort just to get people to sell their votes to you that you might as well just use that energy campaigning for the free votes.

Hell, I ran for CSM without advertising or having the backing of a major alliance and I still got 300 votes. Not near enough to win, but 300 accounts picked me and I did not lift a finger or give a single ISK cent of my own money.

So this is pretty disgusting by -ismin Eve

[–]thisurlnotfound 2 points3 points ago

Standard price per vote is about 10M ISK for empire residents. Even with the current inflation, if you offer someone 10M ISK to vote in something they were ignoring anyway, they'll probably take the deal.
