Does anybody have info on the Dawnguard DLC? by TheUndyingCubonein skyrim

That's what Dawnguard will probably be.

Why can't I become the High King of Skyrim? by BossMan11in skyrim

[–]thetaubadel 0 points1 point ago

I think they are looking forward to any future installment of the series. If they give a definitive end, half of players are immediately told their decisions were non-canon at the beginning of the next game. By leaving it open-ended, the next game can have any result without it conflicting with a players decisions.

They stated at the outset that they wouldn't release DLC for Skyrim unless it was a full-game experience, like Shivering Isles was for Oblivion.

My friend and I were discussing this a couple days ago and seem to agree that it is the worst part of the game, aside from maaaaaaaaabe the followers. Everything just stops when ou finish a questline. It doesn't have a denoument. It just crescendos and then pfffffft, nothing. If it weren't for the fact that the good is reeeeeeeaaaaaally good, and outweighs most of the bad, Elder Scrolls games would be considered pretty shitty because of this.

So you're saying wizarding teenagers just don't have sex? From the raging hormones in the books and movies, that cannot possibly be true.

I think so too. They obviously have inter-House relationships, both friendships and romantic ones. Why don't they have people over to hang out? It seems odd.

It actually brings up a pseudo-related note that I've been wondering about for awhile. I know that Rowling created a certain kind of universe, but we all know how teenagers are. How do you think that Hogwarts handles students going off to have the old in-out, real savage? I mean, it has to have happened. And how would Hogwarts deal with teen pregnancies, which are also relatively likely, unless there is a wizarding equivalent to contraceptives.

This only makes her hotter. Charlie Chaplin is a personal hero, and the fact that she has inherited even a fraction of his talent makes her amazing.

Female airbenders had hair, but yeah, they'd have to shave their head to get the tattoos. All I'm saying is that I don't think the airbenders would be like "NO, you can't have the tattoos of a master" if a non-Air Nomad Avatar was like "I've truly found myself connecting to your way of life, I've mastered airbending, and I want to take the step of getting the tattoos to show my devotion to the airbending way of life".

I'm pretty sure the Airbenders would give the tattoos to the avatar if the Avatar asked for them post training.

I love the little details in how they did Korra: the Water Tribe-style earrings, the fact that she is holding Mako's scarf, the tattoos implying she's mastered airbending. So cool.

Is it just me, or are lots of fans super defensive about the fact that Tyrion is a rapist? by jhudsuiin asoiaf

[–]thetaubadel 8 points9 points ago

He thought she was paid, and was forced to finish by his father. Let us remember, he was FOURTEEN at the fucking time. He was surrounded by big armed men who had just gotten their jollies off, his father (who has always hated him) has command of these men and is ordering Tyrion to have sex. Was it rape? Yes. Did Tyrion know it was rape? No. Does this make him a rapist? Not knowingly. He bore zero hostile intentions against Tysha, he did not have any of the traditional trappings of a rapist: he was not obsessed with domination over another individual, he did not want to hurt the victim, and he did not do it willingly. In a court of law, no one would convict him.

Syrio Forel as Jaqen H'ghar? (possible spoilers?) by FadeadAagein gameofthrones

[–]thetaubadel 1 point2 points ago

I was thinking about this, but its impossible due to timing. Jaqen H'ghar was taken from the Black Cells BEFORE Syrio was "killed". At least, that's the way I read it. This is because Ned was the one who gave permission to Yoren to take the criminals from the Black Cells for the Night's Watch, before he was taken.

I think culture copying is fine so long as there are enough differences to keep them unique. I like using Game of Thrones as an example: the Dothraki are definitely Mongols, but they are different enough historically and culturally to not be associated as Mongols; the Braavosi are definitely Venetian/Greek, but stand far enough apart to not actually be Venetian/Greek. Within my own novels, I have the Sa'guri, who are mildly based on ancient Middle Eastern empires, the Dre'en who are roughly Roman combined with Middle Eastern empires, the Angel Speakers who are pretty ancient Greek and the Kalashans, who are Egyptian/Bedouin with a vaguely Norse feel amongst a few of them. I used those cultures as starting points and spun off from there.

Then run with it. If you know a certain town was the site of a battle where Old King Ballen died, call it Ballen's Fall. If the town is in the foothills of the Redstone Mountain, call it Redstone. It sounds cliche, but it's what actually happens in real life. Cornwall was named for a wall of corn, Rome was named for Romulus, Washington was named for good old George.
