I play dodgeball with a bunch of people near East Beach Grille on Sunday mornings - around 11. Big group of people organized by a fitness club in town, you should come by!

Setting up a remote backup? by thestouffin techsupport

What would you suggest/what's a good way to setup a NAS?

They just have a standard cable connection. From what others are saying, something like Carbonite may just be the better option for now.

Yeah it sounds like from what you and others are saying, something like Carbonite may just be the better option for now. Thanks for the input! :)

I currently do the mail back home setup, which works but does leave a gap. From what others are saying it sounds like I wouldn't get anything much faster with a setup there than I would with an online service, so something like Carbonite might be the way to go.

Thanks, I'll look into this. About how much data a day were you able to backup? I've tried Carbonite but it wasn't quite fast enough. I need to be able to do about 6 gigs/day.

I've tried Carbonite and their service wasn't fast enough to keep up with the amount of data I needed to upload. Also, I would need to use one of their premium plans which is only compatible with Windows (I'm on a Mac), since I'm backing up from an external hard drive.

I only really need around 2TB. Backing up photos. I'm a photographer with an efficient digital asset management setup, there's just a small hole in my workflow that leaves a portion of recent data only backed up locally, not offsite. I do incremental offsite backups, but having something like a server that I could constantly back up to would fill this void.
