Have you tried crafting a rare or magic one?

Agreed. Case in point: r/askscience. No BS allowed there. It is more difficult and more subjective in this sub though.

[Troubleshooting] D3 rig not powering up by RichardGeein buildapc

Disassemble your rig and reassemble it outside of the case, on something that is grounded.

There might be a short somewhere and the machine may be powering off to prevent damage to your components.

All these cool features from Steam but all I really want is a way for me to tell the Steam client which HDD to install my games on.

I think he meant to use it this way: 2. Rare diction; wording

I will agree, the use of it this way isn't the common definition, but it is colloquially used this way nowadays. The pedant in me has decided to agree with you on your first post.

Dear Class of 2012: Your Degree Is Worthless -- Now Get to Work by refvadevin TrueReddit

[–]thejesusfish 100 points101 points ago

All writers know this harsh reality, because in our world the work we do each day is representative of our value. For me the quality and quantity of columns I write tells everyone in real terms what I am capable of, and what I have been working on lately. My impact is real via the words I write and clicks I generate.

Not only does this guy come off as a condescending prick, but he fails to acknowledge that the degree does count in order to get your foot in the door in a lot of industries. Not to mention, science and engineering degrees demonstrate a baseline level of knowledge and do matter for some jobs.

Fuck you, journalism hack.

My girlfriend is having a lot of problems with being hacked, we think by the same person. What can be done to avoid this? by TACMONin techsupport

[–]thejesusfish 8 points9 points ago

Very possible it's a keylogger on a computer she is using. Not all AVs can detect all malware. It's worth running some scans with additional utilities like Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, or Spybot. Microsoft Security Essentials is also free and might be worth a shot.

Has she changed her email password? She can create as many other accounts as she wants but most will allow passwords to be bypassed if he has access to the email linked with those new accounts.

To be honest, if I were in the same position as your girlfriend, I would reinstall the operating systems on every single personal computer that I had, just to be safe.

I dealt with several Dell laptops in my shop with that wireless card. They were part of a bad batch of cards that would die after 12-18 months of use.

From your post, you mentioned driver updates for your router, which makes no sense to me. Did you mean driver updates for your wireless card? You should definitely try updating the drivers for the card if you have not done so already.

I strongly suspect your wireless card is busted. Hopefully your laptop is under warranty and you can get a replacement card.

Restoring laptop to factory settings: Windows 7 installation failed. What now? by Konradovin techsupport

[–]thejesusfish 0 points1 point ago

When the computer is booting up, can you press F10 (or whatever the key is) to boot to the recovery partition and restart the restore process?

If not and you obtain an install disc, you can pretty much erase everything on the hard drive and reinstall a clean copy of Win7. The drivers should be available on Sony's support site (though I would recommend downloading at least the network adapter drivers to a USB key beforehand).

Obvious troubleshooting questions:

Does this happen when someone else connects to the router?

Does this happen when you are connected via ethernet instead of wirelessly?

What model wireless card is installed in your laptop?

You could conservatively invest $40mil at 5% live off 2 million bucks a a year. WTF.

2012 vs. 1984: Young adults really do have it harder today - The Globe and Mail by Tarretin worldnews

The next comment is irrelevant. I was making a point about the car being twice as much now as it was before, which is entirely expected due to inflation. The inflation statistic is given in the second quote.

Downvote brigade fails to put the two quotes from the article together. ಠ_ಠ

When I went looking for a new car in 1986, the average cost was roughly half of what it is now. It was totally affordable.

Oh, that's interesting.

The Bank of Canada’s handy inflation calculator tells us that my $1,000 tuition back in 1984 would cost $2,028 today if it increased just by the inflation rate annually.

Oh wait, it's just inflation.
