For me it would be that you can build a building to withstand a certain magnitude earthquake - it's not just the magnitude that matters, it's the proximity and site effects. A Mw 8 earthquake 400 km away won't do nearly as much damage as a Mw 6.5 right underneath you (hypocentral depth is also very important). It's about how the ground moves at your location, not the magnitude.

Also, earthquake weather is a huge myth. Earthquakes nucleate deep down (kilometers deep) and are impervious to surface conditions. You only have to drill down a couple meters in solid rock to get beyond seasonal effects.
