My group and I were climbing the peak opposite of Mt. Baring, Merchant Peak, which is at the same elevation, and yes we made it to the top! It took about six hours to climb about 4,000 ft. (Here's a GPS-logged map (alternate) of our route if you're interested.)

Skills needed:

• Basic knowledge of snow travel (noting avalanche potential, avoiding cornices, etc.)
• Ice axe self-arrests (legitimately used this skill several times)
• Roped travel (although we didn't rope up this climb)
• Body temp management (w/ clothing layering)
• Water and nutrition management (like normal hiking/backpacking, but you require more)

It was an excellent climb. I definitely recommend it :)
