I think that, in addition to the current random enchantments, there should be tomes, found in dungeon/stronghold chests, which you can use to get a specific enchantment. Also, as I mentioned elsewhere, there should be high level mobs, like ogres or red dragons, that give much more exp than regular mobs.

We need high level mobs, like the red dragon Notch promised. Something weaker than the final boss, but still a major challenge and which provides a lot of exp. Perhaps ~25 levels compared to ~100 for the Ender Dragon.

Just have the biomes correspond to the above-ground ones. Like desert caves have sandstone.

I don't know about more ores, though I would like an ore that only spawns in mountains, even if lapis lazuli just got moved there instead of a new ore. IRL lapis lazuli is found in mountains, and I think it's a more appropriate place for it in general.

New stones would definitely be nice. Maybe granite or marble, since they could have nice patterns.

There definitely needs to be more in caves though. Perhaps a monster that only spawns below 63, and passive mobs like bats. And maybe silverfish eggs in caves instead of just strongholds. Also perhaps some vegetation, like glowing fungus or something that only grows near lava.

Ego death can either be terrifying or enlightening, depending on your perspective. I think that the fate of the dwemer vs. the achievement of CHIM is a good metaphor for it. In a sense, both are huge revelations about the nature of the universe which can have positive or negative repercussions. CHIM, the fictional one, is obviously much more extreme, but I can definitely see the resemblance.
