There's not much switching anymore. Phonetically it's a combo of the D/T sound, but South Korea recently made it official to write the city's name as Daegu for consistency and simplicity.

Seeing unused space being used as gardens in a concrete jungle surprised me when I first landed in Korea, still makes me smile. Within one (short) block of my apartment there are 3 plots of land filled with delicious veggies.

You see nothing to complain about? There's plenty of people who have no insurance. If it was an unexpected emergency it could happen to anyone. The American healthcare system is a formula for patient bankruptcy.

some awesome murals around spring garden, west philly and north philly. Can't remember the exact streets, I don't live there anymore but when you're driving/biking just keep your eyes open.

On Friday silver closed in complete backwardation on the Comex. Spot silver closed at $29.075/oz while FEB 2011 closed at $29.064/oz and DEC 2015 closed at $29.026/oz. I believe this is the first time in history that this has happened. by deadsnailsocietyin Economics

You just don't get it... After this I'm finished with you. Let's say there are 100 ounces of silver in the world and on the Comex there are contracts for 10,000 ounces of silver to be delivered. Numbers like this result in a default because they don't have the silver to fulfill the orders. It doesn't matter what the price is. My statement is focused on this and not the price.

I never said the price will stop rising. I am saying the validity and use of the COMEX exchange will take a hit due to the incapacity to regulate the naked shorting by some big players. The use of the COMEX is to get physical delivery on a certain date, if you cannot count on it for that it shouldn't be operating. And it won't operate as it currently is if people have to settle for a cash settlement as opposed to physical delivery.

The price will go through the roof, but nobody can get any silver from the exchange. If you cannot get physical delivery why have the exchange at all?

Naked shorting is manipulation because you aren't borrowing someone else's share of silver to go short (and buying back their share in the future). You are just continually betting the price will go down, without taking into consideration the actual supply or demand. How isn't that manipulation?

We know there is manipulation because of the naked shorting going on. There is not enough silver to physically deliver on all the silver futures, yet big players continue to short it without holding any metal. Sooner or later, the Comex will default.

It means people think the price of silver will go down in the future. Manipulation? Probably. However, if it continues to be manipulated like this the price will go down in the short term.

Ummm, if you were serious.. it's a futures contract. It's what someone is willing to pay to have an ounce of silver delivered in Dec 2015.. Whether there will be silver to deliver at that point is a whole other issue.

You're quite funny. I will be proud of my decision if I go through with it and I will not regret my decision.

A quick comment to your "Money has to come from somewhere": Actually all money is just printed, without anything backing it. In fact, only a very small fraction of actual dollars are in rotation compared to what's owed in total. Short of anything but a miracle, the dollar will collapse and the little people are going to get stuck with the inflation, because hell, the money has to come from somewhere.

I understand student loans never go away, and they can garnish your wages if you don't pay. But I'll never go back to the states and they cannot garnish my wages from an employer in a different country (as I understand it).

I'm not worried about my character and what people will think of me. As someone I know told me, when I mentioned what I was planning on doing: "Well, if you're not killing people or doing anything illegal, I don't care because it's your life. As long as your are happy do what you want." I didn't rack up a 'ton of debt', but it's significant enough to put my plans back a few years. Time is priceless.

To answer your first question: I don't mind screwing over credit card companies. If I owed money to someone I know, I would pay them. Me not paying CC companies doesn't really change the rates for other people, companies raise interest rates to crazy amounts as it is.

I have a responsibility and I'm choosing to screw my credit instead of paying off the credit. If that's my penalty, I'll take it. I won't need credit where I'm going anyway.

Yes, a real man pays his debts. On that note, real men accept failure when he has made bad decisions... Cough AIG, Bank of America, Citigroup Cough Cough

Which Americans will be laughing when SHTF and measures are taken to pay back all of the US government's debt? Me, for one.

You are right. Banks give loans too easily and it's too easy for someone to get the huge loans to go to (an overpriced) school. While no one forced me to take on the debt and it's my responsibility to pay, it's the responsibility of lenders to be loan consciously and responsibly. I could pay my debt, but I'd rather buy a farm.
