TROPHY CASE

When your child wonders... by JingleSlicein WTF

[–]stumo 0 points1 point ago

Here to help.

Q: "Do all guys find other guys attractive?"
A: Yes. If you're a guy and you don't find other guys attractive, see a doctor as soon as possible, you may have cancer.

Q: "What does herpes feel like?"
A: Herpes feels like you have to go pee. Hair growth in the genital region is another sign that you have it.

Q: "I haven't gotten my period in five months, is that bad?"
A: No, that's good. Periods are awful.

Q: "What did I do last night after my seventh jaegerbomb?"
A: Most likely, had an eighth jaegerbomb.

Q: "How do I get my penis to sit back down?"
A: Once a penis becomes erect, it can only be made to go back down through vigorous application of a commercially available rub such as Boner-B-GoneTM or Chubb-No-MoreTM. If you have an erection that goes away by itself, again, see a doctor immediately, you may be sterile or have cancer.

Corn-Pone Nazis - If Germany, one of the most intelligent and literate places on earth, with multiple newspapers and an educated citizenry could not hold off fascism, then how can America, full of cranks, charlatans, opportunists, and zealots...? by JackIsidorein collapse

This article seems to be confusing fascism with authoritarianism. All fascism is authoritarian, but not all authoritarianism is fascist.

Fukushima: six workers died, of course not of radiation by lispmin energy

[–]stumo 3 points4 points ago

Try to get independent information.

And this information is where? I assume that you've found independent info that indicate these workers died from radiation poisoning.

[–]stumo 6 points7 points ago

So everything if everything they say could be a lie, how are you determining what's actually going on?

Fukushima: six workers died, of course not of radiation by lispmin energy

I would not be surprised if it is caused by working at the plant.

And your experience in the medical profession is what?

TEPCO today announced their new estimates of the radiation release at Fukushima. They now estimate that four times as much Cesium was released as at Chernobyl by accountt1234in collapse

[–]stumo 1 point2 points ago

Celesium 137 releases:

Chernobyl - 85,000 terabecquerels
Fukushima - 360,000 terabecquerels

Gotta say the headline is pretty misleading though. Focusing on one element and saying that therefore Fukushima has released four times as much isn't accurate at all.

The Emergence of the Fix-It Society--I would love to see this catch on by minerva_qwin Frugal

[–]stumo -1 points0 points ago

Huh. I just snagged an old sewing machine from a neighbour and was picking up some thread today. I badly ripped a pair of my favourite shorts last week, and figured what the hell, let's see if I can learn to fix instead of throwing away.

I live in a 2 bed, 2 bath apt with my roommate in a newer building. How can my BC Hydro bill be $300! by therzr16in vancouver

[–]stumo 1 point2 points ago

This is weird. I live in a largish housing co-op, and a whole bunch of residents got similar high readings for the same period. Mine was very high too, but I was billed far lower in the previous period than is usual.

Students in Quebec were asked to send the cops the route of their march. Here's what they replied with. by PunPuncherin funny

[–]stumo 0 points1 point ago

And doing this route would take probably hours (probably the whole day)

Oh yeah, I know, I used to live at Park and Urbaine. I'm just curious as to whether this was actually submitted to the Montreal Police. Wouldn't be surprised if it was fake, but then again, wouldn't be surprised if it was a real submission as well.

This was a mature response which will surely help endear their cause to the public.

You obviously have no experience with the Montreal police, or understand their relationship with the public. If anything, this will wildly endear the protesters with the general Montreal public.

This is very very sad. Virtual hugs and comfort to any here who knew him personally or through the reddits. Someone going so young is just horrible.

Russia, Japan aim for the Moon: "We're talking about establishing permanent bases." by mepperin science

[–]stumo 0 points1 point ago

The space shuttle and Apollo rockets were both powered by liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, made from...water.

Then they were powered by hydrogen and oxygen, not by water. At best, hydrogen and oxygen converted from water would act as an energy storage system, as a significant amount of energy needs to go into splitting them. Water is not a fuel, the component elements are.

The infrastructure for building most things on the moon can be made from a smaller, remote controlled infrastructure, sent up first.

Which was my second point. To wit: "You either have to get the materials to the moon to launch them there, or you need to get a hell of a lot of more materials to the moon in order to have the infrastructure to mine and manufacture them. Either way, it's hideously expensive."

It's already incredibly difficult to construct spacecraft on earth. To get the moon's infrastructure to the level where it's possible to construct them there is going to cost a fortune.

Russia, Japan aim for the Moon: "We're talking about establishing permanent bases." by mepperin science

[–]stumo 0 points1 point ago

You don't fly materials to the moon, you make them on site.

We seem to be going around in circles here. You either have to get the materials to the moon to launch them there, or you need to get a hell of a lot of more materials to the moon in order to have the infrastructure to mine and manufacture them. Either way, it's hideously expensive.

Also, water is not a fuel.

I was making a general statement about my personal philosophy.

Best defence I've heard for calling people jerks in some time.

And all I have been doing is pointing out flawed arguments.

No, you've been saying that people who make personal judgments about someone riding without a helmet are jerks. Nothing about flawed arguments there.

I wasn't talking about you.

Who were you talking to when you replied to my comments?

Please tell me what opinion I was shoving?

You're offering a lot of advice about judgments and why it makes people "jerks". No one asked for your opinion about the issue, and I'm pretty sure the name-calling is a strong opinion.

Russia, Japan aim for the Moon: "We're talking about establishing permanent bases." by mepperin science

[–]stumo 0 points1 point ago

I'm still seeing the amount of money required to set up a viable lunar launching station as being financially unfeasible. That's like a century of investment in order to get it working and sustainable, if that's even possible. The economic return is simply too far in the future and too speculative to make it worth discussion.

Earth launch prices always have to include ~6x the fuel and lifting power cost compared to a lunar launch.

And lunar launches need to include that figure too, as both fuel and construction material need to go from to the earth to the moon first.

I have my opinions, but I don't shove them down other people's throats.

You're doing a hell of a lot of throat-shoving in this thread. And on reading my own comments in this thread, I can't find a single one that either judges or offers advice.

Update on no_numbers_here by meagarin bicycling

[–]stumo -1 points0 points ago

No, judging someone's ability to analyze risk and giving unsolicited advice makes you a jerk.

I must be reading comments from the one person on earth who never judges the actions of others. I'm in awe. However, I think that commenting on the wisdom of certain actions doesn't make me a jerk, despite your expert opinion (and judgment and unsolicited advice) in the matter.
