Reddit, what is the most powerful image you have ever seen? by tokerjoker11in AskReddit

Yeah, I'm sorry to be the buzz killer, but that wouldn't work. You see, babies learn to say common stuff like mom or dad first because they slowly but steadily realize that some sounds cause different reactions on their parents and caretakers.

So unless you ignore everything your baby says except for things that sound like 'brains', this shouldn't work.

I have to say that neither I nor anyone I know in person had a traumatic story with learning to use the bathroom properly. For years I thought it was some sort of running gag, and that most shows portraiting kid problems with that were lame.

I still remember finding out, as a teenager, that this was a 'real' (FIRST WORLD COUGH COUGH) problem and being absolutely stunned. I mean, you sit there and let the crap go. It's the easiest thing in the world.

You can't fake cancer for attention, hence, no one will ever treat you like you could 'snap out of it'.

Also 'every illness' has a "visual" and/or sensible effect (death included). You could suffer from a mental illness for years and never now. Since it's easier to comprehend a 'regular' illness, they are better understood and 'accepted'.

I'd say there are many better arguments as to why people should be educated on the existance and effects of mental ilness than 'it is a real disease like any other'. To some extent they are, but they are also very different

Why all the hate? English is a very irregular language. The naive syllabic explanations are useless. The IPA is the official way of visually expressing pronunciation

[–]squidesquide -5 points-4 points ago

Quit trying to explain it with "cah-tahn", "cuh-tanh", "cut-awn" English is a terribly irregular language and such explanations serve for nothing. If you don't care to learn the IPA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:IPA_for_English) then try to use common words as reference.

I made a custom scenario back in the day. Can you try it out and tell me what you think of it? by squidesquidein aoe2

[–]squidesquide[S] 0 points1 point ago

You have to donwload the file and put it into your 'Scenario' folder under Age of Empires II's folder. Then you run the game and select 'custom map', which will open a list of all scenarios you have donwloaded.

Also, note that this is a strictly multiplayer scenario. If you have it and other people join a match that you are hosting, you can select the scenario and as soon as they hit the "I'm ready" button, the file will be automatically transferred to them.

For an example (I can't find the more similar ones right now) go to this page and launch the applets: http://www.complexification.net/gallery/machines/boxFittingImg/index.php

Also check the entire page: http://www.complexification.net/gallery/

Also check the r/programmerart subreddit.

Here's a post I made at AoK Haven in 2008, in what I imagine was a brief comeback to AoE2:

This is a multiplayer for 4 players in any combination of teams or free-for-all. The objective of the map is to destroy your enemies' castles while avoiding destruction of your own.

In this map, the primary mean of upgrading troops is controlling structures in the middle (barracks, archery range and stable). These are conquered by approaching them with 20 military units, and the main point of this is that all structures can be stolen from other players.

All players start with the same units in spawning (to a maximum of 100 units per player), and must 'conquer' building in the middle to gain better, unique, units. There are also buildings that grant resources over time when conquered (mining camps, lumber camps). Accumulating resources generates upgrades (such as blacksmith upgrades, for example) and, in vast sums, spawns some special units.

This is the second version of a 3x3 only map I've designed in 2006, not posted here for being heavily bugged. This is a simplified version, and still in beta - some bonuses per kill are going to be implemented.

Also, thanks to everyone in the AoK Haven community that participates in the Scenario Design forums. I'm a lurker, so I don't post, but I've learned a lot from other people's questions and used A LOT of stuff seen on the forum in these (and other) maps. I hope the negletion of credits for 'original creators' of the many editor tricks is not an issue, and if it is just contact me and I'll give credit where credit is due.

I've also implemented (with some difficulty at first) a system for rebuilding deleted and/or destroyed buildings.

Thanks to the creators of Trigger Studio and Trigger Burner. I've used the last one to avoid having people read 'unreadable' triggers and destroy them. If you have any interest in modifying this map, just drop me a line and I'll glady send the one with the visible and orderly triggers =)

[–]squidesquide[S] 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure when I made this, but I think it was maybe 6 years ago. I mastered the scenario editor and 'published' this in the brazilian mIRC channels dedicated to AoE.

It got decently played, but I soon stopped playing - and never updated it, save for a brief comeback years later - and I have no idea if people caught on with it.

Anyway, the concept is - at least to me - novel, it is a variation of castle blood that implements an 'area control' mechanic. There are instructions in the hints and history sections, if I recall correctly.

Petition calls on Brazilian president to veto 'catastrophic' forest code: More than 1.5 million people have petitioned Dilma Rousseff to reject a bill that may lead to further destruction of the Amazon by davidreiss666in worldnews

[–]squidesquide 9 points10 points ago

Also, if you're brazilian: get INFORMED. There's a lot of bullshit on both sides of the argument going around. People think there's a clause in the code saying 'the forest shall be ass-raped'. It's not that. It also does not 'protect the forest' by controlling farming expansions.

Also stop being fucking idiots and support the construction of Belo Monte and other hydro plants, we need them. You want to charge your fucking iPhone for the next 20 years? Then shut the fuck up about a small (yes, very small) piece of land being flooded and some 'indians' (wearing Coca-Cola t-shirts) having to move.
