What's the rush? City councillor on planning committee demands cyclist speed limit by kamoylanin bicycling

[–]spuri0us 1 point2 points ago

Hold on now? Is he going to pay to install speedometers on bicycles? How else would a cyclist know he is over the limit?

TheJournal is an awful excuse of shite journalism. The had an article up a while ago that MetEireann had issued a small craft warning on Irish waters. For anyone that listens to the weather on the radio that is nearly every second day, not newsworthy.

And the commenters seem to be brain dead, most of them seem to crawl out from under a bridge every now and then.

Irish Times for when you have to read the National News. The Guardian or the BBC for anything international.

Of course you may ask :)

Its Irish. It literally translates as "May they sit at the right hand of God" (that might sound very religious, but remember Ireland was once 96% Catholic)

Its a pretty common way to wish someone peace in Irish today.

  • Helmets. They have saved my head on more then one occasion. Not going to force people on this one though. Its a rather conscientious issue but personally I never ride without one
  • Lights. Front and Rear. Cannot underestimate the importance of a decent rear and front light. You get noticed. That is half the battle.
  • High visibility clothing on dull days. This is a good addition to lights. Doesn't have to be luminous yellow, white works too :)
  • Be predictable in traffic. Use signals, lanes and be decisive in your movements. When I'm driving in a car, I don't like cyclists zipping though traffic cutting people off so a bit of respect goes a long way.
  • For the love of god don't go up the inside of vehicles particularly HGVs, coaches and other large vehicles. Massive blind spots. Case in point.
  • Position, position, position!

2 cops cause a major security alert at Dublin Airport after shooting rabbits with a .22 rifle with a silencer and telescopic lens next to the airport. They will not face charges or disciplinary sanction. by webby_mc_webbersonin ireland

[–]spuri0us 1 point2 points ago

Anyone who is in anyway familiar with how rifles are shot will know that it is good practice that you have ground behind your target. I.e you dont miss and shoot into air.

Anyone who uses a rifle knows this. Bit of a non story here.

A picture of my 1987 Peugeot Triathlon + my experiences with bicycling in the last 2.5 months in comments by CarlinTin bicycling

[–]spuri0us 5 points6 points ago

By 1987 Peugeot was using all ISO/English threading on the bottom bracket and headset.

Parts will be very easy to find.

And to say its 'poor' steel is pretty false too, the triathlon was second from the top in peugeots range. Super vitus 980 tubing was pretty much on par with reynolds 531c and anything top end from columbus.
