TROPHY CASE

Shortest Path by FalconElarisin science

[–]someguyfromcanada 0 points1 point ago

Imgur issue confirmed. But for me, for this submission the opened image was the same as the thumbnail.

What is wrong with all the pictures in this subreddit? None of the comments seem to reflect that all the expanded pictures/gifs not match the title or thumbnail. by CrystalKUin dogs

[–]someguyfromcanada 4 points5 points ago

I personally have not seen it but other people have been complaining about it today. It is probably an Imgur mix up.

edit: Imgur issue confirmed.

So my giftee didn't update her address when she moved... by JSaltseain secretsanta

  1. No that is not required.
  2. No. But please make sure you keep evidence of you sending the package just in case the admins want to confirm that you sent.

Not at all. And there is no reason to be intimidated about submitting. Have seen all the bozos on here?! At the least there are some library reddits you should check out eg. /r/libraries; /r/librarians; /r/libraryporn.

22-year-old mystery of pro hockey player's violent death solved. by johnleakein forensics

That's what you would call a cold case. This as the subject of a recent documentary as well.

It is a fascinating case but I am downvoting since it is pure promotion with no answer revealed.

Congrats on the new dog. I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. It has only been 2 days and so he is still adjusting. I would just be patient and give it some more time. If he is still like that after a month, then I would be concerned.

Logical guess but he (?) has said that he is an occasional lurker and not a habitual redditor.

Done. (Even though you are not a participating redditor and I prefer that people contribute before asking reddit for a favor). Good luck!

edit: Try /r/favors as well.

Walking away from a nightmare project by todaywascrazyin freelance

[–]someguyfromcanada 6 points7 points ago

Unfortunately I have fired several clients. As far as I know, as a matter of law, you can always walk away from a job whether you are a freelancer or employee (Unless you are a lawyer or doctor). You are not a slave. On the other hand, the longer the project takes, the longer you get paid. You may also want to balance the damage to your reputation by staying with the damage of leaving.

Is every soldier that signs up going to get 17 gifts, or will they be split up among non-redditor soldiers? by bmlbytesin secretsanta

[–]someguyfromcanada 1 point2 points ago

The admins think that having a military address is the only feasible way to verify whether or not one is active duty military. You are right that some people will slip through the cracks because of this but perhaps that is preferable to sending to a bunch of people pretending to be troops.

Hopefully more troops will sign up. We are working to really spread the word. There has been no solution crafted for any gifters who do not get matched. I would assume that they will simply not be given a match and that would be it but I could be wrong.

[–]someguyfromcanada 2 points3 points ago

You can do that but that is not the model being used. Any person can sign up to receive as long as they have a reddit account and a military address.

Please spread the word that anyone who is active duty and has a military address can sign up!

The only requirement is that you are active duty and have a military address. So, no.

How does one go about getting a gift? by SadlyIamJustaHeadin secretsanta

[–]someguyfromcanada 1 point2 points ago

I understand that you are disappointed right now. Hopefully you are not turned off of redditgifts. About 10-15% of people are shafted in any past exchange. It has been a crap shoot dependent on people wanting to give and not simply to receive.

The new exchange credit system is designed to cure that discrepancy and make sure we have the most trusted gifters ever.

[–]someguyfromcanada 0 points1 point ago

Hi sadlyiamjustahead,

Thank from being a great member of the redditgifts community. Thank you sincerely.

It's absolutely horrible that you or anyone gets shafted. I hate that. But it does happen. Whether it is the fault of the people or the postal system I don't know, but it sucks.

Thirdly, it sounds like unlike other exchanges you may have expected something this time and maybe that's why you are pissed/disappointed. You can't expect anything. It's not really about getting a Ferrari. As you know I think.

Lastly, I am a mod and I had to remove this post because unofficial rematching offers or requests absolutely screw up the system. As you have seen, the system generally works and I am sorry but I can't allow this.

I wish you the best in general and especially for rematching.

1st Peterborough meet-up - Sunday May 27/2012 4pm by bored_as_nuts20in Peterborough

[–]someguyfromcanada 1 point2 points ago

I Don't Always go to Meet-Ups... but when I do I probably won't be there until dinner.

Or at least until after you leave the Only Cafe. I have been going there since it opened but for some reason the head bartender thinks I started a fight there a few weeks ago.... despite the fact that is not my style and I haven't even lived in here in years.

Keep me updated please.

I may be able to make it to dinner for this one. And don't forget about Global Meet-Up Day on June 23!

My giftee still hasn't marked their gift as received, what can I do? by bewareofthegoldfishin secretsanta

[–]someguyfromcanada 0 points1 point ago

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do but wait. If they do not confirm receipt they get banned. It sucks but some people do not bother posting until they get threatened with that. Please keep your mailing receipt just in case you have to show it the admins at some point.

Good luck!

Reddit Gifts for the Troops! by tragopanicin secretsanta

[–]someguyfromcanada 0 points1 point ago

All very good points. "Deployed" is used only once in the section where you sign up to receive a gift and must confirm that you are an "active, deployed troop".

Forgive me as I am not familiar with the nuances of the jargon, but now I am fairly sure it means: "stationed domestically or abroad or deployed in the field or at sea with a military address". But we will have to wait for clarification.

Reddit Gifts for the Troops! by tragopanicin secretsanta

[–]someguyfromcanada 2 points3 points ago

This does need clarification from an admin. I believe that they were using the term "deployed" to mean not a veteran or a National Guard at home but someone with an AA, AE, etc address which is their receiving address. I know that some people will fall through the cracks with that address requirement, but I suppose the theory was that there has to be some way of verifying that the giftee is active duty military.
