Is that pronounced Gee-na or Gye-na?

Ugh, it really is annoying that pregnancy manages to turn good food (or food-like things) bad...

DHA supplement? by letsgoflyakitein BabyBumps

[–]snuggleslut 1 point2 points ago

It's too bad the gummy kind didn't work out for you. I love my gummy prenatals and they have DHA in them (Vitafusion from Target). They don't have iron though so I'm alternating taking them with a regular horse-pill type prenatal.

What is the dumbest way you have injured yourself? by The_Wrocker_Francin AskReddit

[–]snuggleslut 0 points1 point ago

My dumb injuries come from trying to catch things after I've dropped them. The first one was dropping a pencil, trying to catch it and having the point shoved into my finger instead. The second one happened when I tried to catch an X-Acto and shoved it into my thigh instead. These happened several years ago and I still have scars from both.

Big Ribcage and Little Boobs? by WhatsRealLifeLikein TwoXChromosomes

[–]snuggleslut 1 point2 points ago

How about something like this. I also have a big ribcage and found a sleeveless version of this to be extremely flattering. I think the wrap detail adds shaping or the illusion of shaping to the right places.

Thankfully, my belly will keep me from sitting that close to the table. ;)

Interesting idea, but I don't think it would work with this particular dress. However, it does seem like there are a lot of cute maternity dresses that could pretty easily converted to normal dresses post-baby.

Locked in the Ivory Tower: Why JSTOR Imprisons Academic Research by fuzzoin technology

[–]snuggleslut 0 points1 point ago

You're right about this and apparently some of the science journal databases are even worse. It costs too much, but, still there is a cost. I think the scanning is probably less of an issue than having to negotiating agreements with all the individual journal publishers. And, of course, in addition to the costs, there are also copyright issues involved.

Locked in the Ivory Tower: Why JSTOR Imprisons Academic Research by fuzzoin technology

[–]snuggleslut 14 points15 points ago

Alternatively, go to the library of a state university. As a resident, you're allowed access to the library and they will have access to JSTOR. You can then download or print (with a charge) to your heart's content. Yes, it's not as convenient, but restricted access derives from the fact that it costs money to produce and index journals.

Came to work today with a black eye... by daclampin TwoXChromosomes

[–]snuggleslut 12 points13 points ago

You would probably put your coworkers' minds at ease if you casually mentioned what happened to someone. No need to add fodder to the rumor mill.

In regards to the potential abused coworker situation, it can't hurt to ask. You would probably ask if someone came in with a visible injury like a broken leg and a black eye is no different. We may associate it with domestic violence, but plenty of people get them for other reasons. John Kerry has two black eyes from getting hit with a hockey stick. I got a black eye from running into a towel bar and my mom got one from the cable box when my parents were moving a TV.

The ultimate freshman... by kilodudein funny

[–]snuggleslut 1 point2 points ago

In my view, an occasional or accidental curse word is fine, but there's no reason the professor should be cursing like a sailor. It's a class not a Quentin Tarantino movie.

On a personal note, just last week I spent a few minutes stumbling over my words when talking to my grad advisor because I was unable to quickly think of a polite synonym for "half-assed." Maybe I should have just gone for it.

Has anyone else experienced bleeding to rival Niagara Falls? by waterfallofbloodin BabyBumps

[–]snuggleslut 0 points1 point ago

Ugh, I'm dealing with a similar thing right now as well. It happened for the first time on Dec 29th (they found a subchorionic hematoma) and happened again this Monday. I'm going in for an ultrasound on Friday and am hoping everything's alright and this second bleed was the clot resolving itself. Hugs to you and I hope it works out for both of us. If it helps, I will say that my doctor seems optimistic though he was definitely a bit more concerned after hearing about the second bleed.

If you're not afraid to order them, there are a number of winter sales going on right now - you might try Gap, Old Navy, and Ann Taylor Loft.

PLUS Model Magazine says it aims to encourage plus-size consumers to pressure retailers to better cater to them, and stop promoting a skinny ideal... Love it :) by Nyssa_Hotaruin TwoXChromosomes

[–]snuggleslut 5 points6 points ago

Did anyone else do a double-take at the skinny/plus size comparison. That photo is not about demonstrating the difference between the two women, but about something else entirely - namely, sex.

Christmas day feast recipes for two? by agentderoin Cooking

[–]snuggleslut 0 points1 point ago

We're doing a ham, but that's because we have a love affair with pork and have no problem committing to the leftovers. But if you don't want to end up with a huge amount of leftover meat, Cornish game hens are a good idea. Easy to cook and great with cranberry and wild rice pilaf.

I got yelled at for shaving my face... I need ladybeard advice. by BuggedMeiin TwoXChromosomes

[–]snuggleslut 0 points1 point ago

Your waxer wants you to get your face waxed because that's her job. Shaving sounds like the most logical and simplest thing to do. After all, it doesn't do any harm to the millions of men that do it.

A student of history needing some advice...feeling a bit lost. by Peref95in history

[–]snuggleslut 0 points1 point ago

Following TheOpossum on this, Grad school also shouldn't be a fallback. My advice is that you shouldn't go to grad school unless you feel you "have" to, meaning that you will regret not having given it a shot. It's a very circuitous and flawed route to a career so it should only really be done if you feel like the experience is worth it for you.

Where do you ladies find decent-quality leather boots for a reasonable price? by kalamawhoin TwoXChromosomes

Especially since you're in the UK, how about Clark's? I haven't bought from them myself, but I've heard good things.

I agree with the other commentators that Doc Martens are great for durability, but they don't really fit everyone's style.
