What are some staple foods(items) in your kitchen that might not typically be considered such?

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 3 days ago[-]

I prefer Tony Chacere's cajun seasoning.

Ok Cookit, I picked up a 1.5 inch thick, 2.5 lb boneless New York sirloin. Now what?

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

For something different, you could marinate it in wine and spices.

Have any women here NOT liked women at one point in their lives?

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 6 days ago[-]

As a general trend, I've observed that many women who identify emphatically and foremost as women rather than as people have a bunch of issues.

I agree with you here for the most part, but I think it's interesting that you linked this identification as a woman before a person with traditional femininity, because I think the same thing can happen with women who are very committed to feminism. For me, being a woman is down the line quite a bit in my many levels of identity. Because of this, I often have trouble relating to women who view gender as primary to the way people relate to each other.

What are your favorite ways to dress up boxed mac and cheese?

snuggleslut 7 points8 points 6 days ago[-]

If you learn to make a simple white sauce, you can abandon the box stuff for good.

First, melt 1-2 tbs butter in a sauce pan.

Then add 1-2 tbs flour.

Stir the flour until it starts to look golden.

Stir in 1-1.5 cups milk.

After the milk is warm, add cheese with abandon (but 1 cup is probably sufficient).

Mix with pasta and revel in its tastiness.

Greece loses EU voting power in blow to sovereignty - Telegraph

snuggleslut -2 points-1 points 19 days ago[-]

The Telegraph may be centre right, but some of the comments seem to go much further right and reminiscent of the U.S. tea party people with their comparison of the EU to Hitler's goal of empire. Wow, the internet sure does bring out the crazies.

Two questions: Why does Reddit think it's so intellectual and why all the hate for Digg?

snuggleslut 2 points3 points 19 days ago[-]

Thank you, Judith Butler.

First time flying on Friday, help? :(

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 21 days ago[-]

I'd say getting drunk should be a last resort. It's way too easy to get dehydrated on a long flight as it is and this will only make it worse.

Do you hate it when others physically touch yours screen.

Hold on a second. I'll just reach over to your screen and get that extra 's' off there for you...

How To Hack Your Brain: Sleep

I wonder how this affects problem-solving abilities since "sleeping on it" has been shown to help.

I read One Hundred Years of Solitude and loved it, now I'm going back and reading the spanish version side by side. Anybody tried this? Any results?

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 25 days ago[-]

Novels in a second language can be tough. I read academic prose in Spanish frequently and fluently, but depending on the writer, I still struggle with some novels.

Who here has taken AP English Literature and Composition?

I was kind of amused by the joke, but frowned disapprovingly at the inclusion of the explanation.

TIL that on Valentine's Day, White Castle offers tableside service, flowers and candlelight.

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 25 days ago[-]

This seems like a nice thing for White Castle to do since not everyone can afford a fancy Valentine's dinner out.

Forida school district to give iPods to some parents of students with disabilities

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 25 days ago[-]

A waste of government funds certainly doesn't make me happy. Even if they were to give them to the kids instead, the premise is still bad: sorry, you're disabled, have an i-pod to make up for it...

My fucking grandma died today.

snuggleslut 9 points10 points 26 days ago[-]

I think you mean: "My grandma fucking died today" since you love your grandma and it's the dying part that sucks. At any rate, sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like you have lots of good memories.

I just started using Firefox (instead of IE). It's awesome.

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 27 days ago[-]

Just wait until you try Opera. It's even better.

Any recommendations for someone interested in the Spanish Civil War (1936-39)? Films, books, articles, etc.

snuggleslut 0 points1 point 27 days ago* [-]

For something comprehensive and readable, check out Hugh Thomas, The Spanish Civil War.

Though outdated in some ways, Gerald Brenan's The Spanish Labyrinth is also worth a read.

For a journalistic account of the bombing of the town of Guernica, check out George Steer's book on the subject.

The six part BBC documentary is excellent especially on the anarchists.

Edit: Also, check out the movie, Butterfly It shows quite well how the war politicized everything.

What is one thing in history that amazes you and makes you want to tell the world?

snuggleslut 1 point2 points 27 days ago[-]

Meaning the revolution that occurred in the midst of the Civil War?

Dear Reddit: My boyfriend has gained about 40 pounds since we first started dating (a little over 2 years ago), he also has increased his video game usage- about 4 to 10 hrs/day. PLEASE HELP?!

snuggleslut 1 point2 points 1 month ago[-]

The problem isn't the video games, it's that he's not spending enough time with you. The weight seems like a secondary issue. Ask him to do things with you besides things like exercise which you know he's not a fan of. Even though you live together, you can and should still plan "date" nights. If he's not receptive to spending more time with you then there's a problem in the relationship.

Dear Reddit: I'm fat. I want to lose weight. Could you share some advice/success stories?

snuggleslut 2 points3 points 1 month ago[-]

I totally agree and I'm a late-afternoon exerciser myself. Some experts even think that exercising later is better for your body: http://www.cnn.com/2003/HEALTH/diet.fitness/05/27/exercise.time/index.html
