TROPHY CASE

So Will Smith came to my uni's gym by spugel2in pics

[–]smithysmitherson 10 points11 points ago

Yeah, because it's not at all possible that OP didn't have a camera with him at school and decided to find the best picture of the event that he could. At least he didn't upload it to imgur and say "Look at the picture of Will Smith I took earlier today!"

Its amazing how close this correlates to the political split of the nation by gayunicornrainbowsin sports

It doesn't correlate at all... is that the point? I must be missing the joke.

Decentralized Dance Party Minneapolis - album by amburstin twincitiessocial

[–]smithysmitherson 0 points1 point ago

What people didn't realize was that this was a plan by Minneapolis to get all of the hipsters in one location so the rest of the city could listen to their favorite music for one night without being told that it was too mainstream.

Sorry to hear you have had such a frustrating time so far with the boxes you have contacted.

At our location we followed this On Ramp program (Warning: the link is a PDF) and met every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 4 weeks. 4 weeks seems like a long time, but it definitely gave me time to get up to speed and it made it easier when I started doing the regular WODS. I had a friend who works out at a different box and he had about a 2 week on-ramp program and he felt like he had a lot of catching up to do when he started doing the regular WODS.

I think most barbells are around 7 feet long, so any length from 5 or 6 feet up to that would be good to best mimic the actual length of one.

I think the key thing you will be missing is someone to help you learn to do the moves correctly. Yes, you can youtube a lot of them and learn, but without someone watching and guiding you it might be difficult to know for sure you are doing it correctly. I know there have been a few times where I have felt that I'm doing things correctly and my coach made small suggestions that helped me out tremendously. If you aren't comfortable with some of the moves, it might be a good idea to find a reputable personal trainer to help teach you some of the basics.

Another thing you would be missing is equipment. It would be quite an investment to get everything you need.

Also, my favorite part of Crossfit is the community. As a fat guy trying to get fit the encouragement I get from others is extremely motivating. Some of the people at my box have been where I'm at and seeing where they are now is very motivational.

I hope you can still work something out with one of the boxes so that you can enjoy everything that Crossfit has to offer, but if not, you can still make it work with some extra effort.

r/loseit, to any of you who have done the couch-to-5k program, do you have any tips/cautions for a guy who's about to start it? Also, what surprised you about it? Thanks! by krevencyin loseit

[–]smithysmitherson 2 points3 points ago

I completed the couch-to-5k program a few months ago and loved it. Here are some things that helped me along the way:

  • Get good running shoes. They don't have to be $150 shoes, but just something that fits well. If there is a running store nearby, go there and they can help you find the right shoe with the right support.
  • Take it slow at first. I tried running at full speed for the first few workouts and couldn't complete them. Start off with a jog and gradually add some speed.
  • Don't take a week off! It's amazing how hard it is to get back into after even a few too many days off.

In reference to the person who said you should make sure you lose weight before beginning, I think it completely depends on the person. I started c25k when I was at about 260lbs (I'm 5'11) and I had no problems with pain or joint issues at all. Listen to your body and see what it's telling you. If it hurts, you probably shouldn't be running.

Since reducing carbs, I piss out of my butt in the morning. by vitalsign0in loseit

Try cutting out the dairy for a few days. When I decided to go low carb I had similar issues (not quite as extreme as yours) until I cut out the dairy from my diet. Apparently my stomach was sensitive to dairy and I never realized it until all the other crap was out of my system as well.

Need help buying a treadmill; i've never worked out in my life or owned any piece of exercise equipment in my life. by HedgehogsDilemmain Fitness

[–]smithysmitherson 19 points20 points ago

I'm not sure where OP is from, but as someone who lives in Minnesota I find a treadmill handy during the winter months.

Also, OP said they had never worked out before. When I first started working out I was very self-conscious and running down the street was not something I could get the courage to do. Now I love running outside, but at the beginning the idea of it terrified me.
