Diablo 3 itemization is not broken by anakhizerin gaming

[–]skyride 0 points1 point ago

They do have this. Infact you can search based on 3 different stats in order of priority only showing ones with a minimum amount of stats. The only thing you can really fault it on is it would be nice if the ordering functions were more granular.

At least spend 5 minutes learning to use something before you start chatting shit about it.

VanillaTV - One of the most intense and ridiculous games of the season(s), going down to the wire on both maps between NoNameFound (TCM) and Team Infused for ETF2L Season 12 by ComedianTF2in tf2

[–]skyride 2 points3 points ago

Comedian casts and streams interchangeably. 90% of the time, he's streaming if hes casting, but very often he'll just stream without casting.

Simply, the casters are the guys speaking, the streamers are the guy controlling the camera and broadcasting the video online. It's difficult to pay attention to your casting when you're also trying to make sure the camera is always on the most interesting thing to watch.

That's just regular stop motion with screenshots. They use camera positions so the camera is always in the same place after each tweak.

Ye exactly. Sure some languages are stronger than others, but it's essentially always a case of pros/cons and different tools for different use cases. To explicitly say "this language sucks" when its so widely used is just stupid.

Java definitely has flaws, so does PHP, but they've both got aspects to them that make them great. For example you can't bang out a bit of code nearly as quickly in C++ as you can in PHP.

So how do I beat the "random factor"? by skyridein starcraft_strategy

[–]skyride[S] 0 points1 point ago

Sorry :P

Bassically my main race is Protoss, but I was playing zerg in this particular game. I wasn't asking for advice on that specific game, It was just the first anecdote of a recent game that came to mind. I played a few as P and a couple of as zerg. I got half way through writing this post and realised "wait, I played Z this game, i'm getting mixed up with another one".

My point was that I scouted 2 pieces of information that strongly indicated one thing, and then the guy did something else that didn't really make sense.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt instead of immediately writing that off as just a stupid comment worth ignoring.

Do you have any argument of substance as to why 2 of the most widely used programming languages ever created suck?

[–]skyride 0 points1 point ago

Well the actual camera angles are done by smoothing.

The capturing is done through the built in capture method. I made this whole tutorial on it a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeU0M4XaL4k

so, when do you think tf2 will lose popularity? by ANAL_PONDERERin tf2

I don't think you quite realise how big other games have been in the past.

I wouldn't worry too much. A huge amount of the ideas and concepts you've learned in C# transfer over very easily to C++ and Java.

it's just a fact that if he gets gas, he hits 400 minerals slower than he would otherwise. And if that's not enough information for you to determine a reasonable course of action, then you need more information.

Thanks. I think that's the useful thing I've read so far.

Also I do understand game sense. I've played another competitive FPS at a competitive level for years and very much have it in that. It's just even after more than a thousand games in SC2, I still didn't really feel like I'd reached that point.

Idra's day[9] criticism? by shmuppsin starcraft

[–]skyride 2 points3 points ago

Day9's not pretending. He's actually stated many times the he could afford getting a proper studio and so on, but the impression he's gotten is that fans like what we have right now.

Personally, I like what it is just now. It feels very intimate and real.

Barbecue area in Dundee? by BUMDYin dundee

Camperdown park is a great place to go for a BBQ. Just get a couple of disposables, a few burgers and a few beers. Huge park and you're allowed to do it anywhere.

Recommended starter heroes. by AstralProin DotA2

Realistically AM needs power treads, a vanguard and a manta style, then he's all good to carry in team fights. That's about 8.5k gold of items. Assuming 350gpm, that's like 25mins of farming.

Recommended starter heroes. by AstralProin DotA2

[–]skyride 0 points1 point ago

The problem with most carries like AM and Void is that they aren't "complete" without items. For example think about Lich. Lich can quite easily be very useful to the team with nothing other than power treads/arcane boots and maybe a bracer. His spells are already useful enough on their own. If he can get a mekansm/pipe at ANY point then awesome, it's just a little more useful if he gets it earlier.

However look at AM, Void, or pretty much any other carry. Their main purpose is to put out incredible amounts of damage and/or be able to take a lot of damage. The main thing that allows them to do that is items, their spells/passives just help. For example Anti-Mage's mana break/ulti combo is really nice, but it's vastly more useful when he has a manta style since he'll sap mana 3x as quick and do a shit load more damage anyway. Also he'll be able to run quicker which lets him chase even better. Riki is another good one. He's one of the less farm dependant carries. He essentially just needs a diffusal blade and he's good to go. Riki with diffusal blade is a thousand times scarier than without. Once he has it, the slow stacks with his cloud, so virtually any hero that isn't the other teams super tanky carry will die 1v1 to riki. If he doesn't have diffusal, he'll do a ton less damage and they can usually just run back to the nearest tower if they aren't too low on HP.

Faceless void isn't really a useful hero. He's essentially a weapons platform for items that give crazy DPS.

The guide to implementing 2D platformers by dhotsonin programming

[–]skyride 1 point2 points ago

Not exactly. It's a slightly different perspective on the same topic. Think of golf clubs for example. An engineer could come up with a great golf club, but you'd still find the pros themselves would be the best people to ask about what the criteria to make a great golf club would be, and also to test and suggest changes.

It's not so much the responsiveness that is important, but how quickly the input method allows you transfer what you'd like to do to the computer. For FPS games for example, a mouse is a better as it allows you to directly specify where, by how much, and how fast you'd like to move to a point. A joystick only allows you to start moving to that point by setting the direction and speed.

I'm not a 'competitive gamer', professional or otherwise, but bad controls schemes are my pet peeve, too.

As someone who's played FPS games at a competitive level for about 4 years, your post was a breath of fresh air to read. Game are just seem to be something where everyone is "that guy" who knows more than the pros. If more people could take the approach you are, the world of video games would be a far better place.

You need to realise that Valve have the worlds best balance between F2P and paid goods in the form of TF2. These guys know how to run an F2P game. Sure some of this UI stuff may seem daft, but the core gameplay stuff will not even be discussed as part of the paid business model.

South Korea to Chemically Castrate Repeat Child Rapist by PrinceDakkarin worldnews

I'm not saying he's lying about not being bothered about blood, i'm not particularly bothered about myself.

What I'm saying is that using "I'm not bothered by blood" to justify why death doesn't bother you and to prove you've see people die before is like when a small child says "i'm mature! I'm going to be 7 next month!".

This single phrase pretty much confirms that the rest of the sentence is bullshit.
