Any advice with new teachers struggling with unruly students?

I have a couple of classes that simply do not listen. Some students outright ignore me and laugh to each other when I hand out detention. Some serve it, most don't. I don't think write ups mean much, and I have rarely gotten back my copies for write ups, meaning that the administration didn't handle it.

I feel like I'm going to pull my hair out with some of these students and I end everyday with stress headaches. I teach high school math.

Also, I look like I'm 14. So, that is definitely working against me.

I have a lot of saved links. How about allowing us to create custom categories to organize saved links!

I have about 250 saved links, and I go through them and unsave the unnecessary ones, but some I do like to keep around because the comments, as well as the link, are helpful. After I purge the unnecessary links, I still have 200+ links that I didn't unsave. How about allowing users to create custom categories for their saved links, and when you save a link, it would ask if you'd like to add it to a category (either existing or create a new one).

Think of it similar to YouTube's playlist feature, where you can create custom playlists for different videos.

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

Bayside PART ONE

ARRIVAL (Bayside Legacy) It all begins a few years ago with the unprecedented storm hat rocked he coast, my grandfather's house was washed away to the sea, and him in it. There was no one to save him that night, no one to hear the crash of the wood against the water. And so the long life of an honest man came to an end.

I was too innocent to understand when my parent told me that my grandfather was now "up there" with God, so I just thought that God, or someone else among those lines had made him an angel, and was happy with my logic. So eventually, as the issue of the inheritance came to the family, we were summoned to his hometown, which for the safety of its inhabitants we will call Bayside. Bayside was a ver calm old village where the most shock the villagers had ever received was the storm, which made waves high enough to snatch the house off the promontory where it used to lay.

We arrived at the Town Hall, where we were greeted by a woman, probably in her early sixties, her face was angled and long, but she had a surprisingly small nose and eyes. Her hair was a deep red, but was beginning to show the signs of age and had its fair share of white. Her voice was that of an experienced public speaker, who probably had had some teaching experience before, judging by her hand motions, and her attitude with me and my younger brother, a kind of " attachment " that caught my attention almost immediately.

"Welcome to Bayside, a quiet little community where you can live in peace" her eyes shifted from me to my mother as she said this. " you must be the Mariners am I correct?" my mother took over at this point and said, "Yes, my name is Sandra Carrie, this is my son Jacob Mariner (my 13 year old brother) and my son Sam Mariner (Myself) my husband Samuel, will join us as soon as he finishes booking us at the inn." " how nice!" said the woman as she stared at me, I think that she distrusted people my age, much like the rest of the people in this country. " we'll, my name is Maria Duson (Pronounced MAHria duSONt) and I am the head of the village, I manage ll the taxes and census data and such, could you please step inside?" we entered and she closed the door.

The interior looked like a huge hunting store, there were dissected deer heads and stuffed bears all over the room, along with portraits of their hunters. My brother, an avid vegetarian (much to my and my father's disgust) hated all forms of hunting, whether it be fishing, Fowling, or regular hunting, he hated it all. "Nasty" he said, "these people are sick" as my mom talked about the inheritance and such, I headed out to get some air. The village was calm and quiet, a Long street bisected the village, aptly named "Main Street". The classicness of it all was getting to my head, I half expected Chuck Testa to walk down with a new shipment of animals on his shoulder. My brother was whining about our "animal friends" and I paid zilch attention. It was the horrifying realization that no one was on the streets that's made me feel uneasy, I started to ask my ranting brother what he thought and the door slamming open startled me. " let's go find you're father kids." my mom said, in an unamused tone.

I put down my bags and examined the room, it was a small one bed, room. I liked having my space, and my tortured relationship with my mother mad it easier to convince her to let me get my own room. So as soon as it was nighttime I went down for dinner, I examined the food, roast turkey (a fat one too) fresh vegetables and ripe fruits, my mouth watered. Me and my brother found a table with a view of the promontory where my Grandad used to live. "why do animals have to suffer to feed us for just one night? Why waste a whole life, just to eat one night?" "so you can shut the hell up, and enjoy what it took dozens of people to raise, and thousands of generations to tame." I retorted. My mom is a Toxicologist, she specializes in date rape and other sleeping related drugs. She has these strande tubes, that turn purple in the prescence of roofies or other drugs that make you sleep. As soon as I was going to take a bite, I smelled something, I don't know quite what, but my brain said <NO> and I listened, I dropped a piece of turkey into the tube and closed the lid, the liquid inside turned a very dark purple, meaning that it had been poisoned, I now regret not telling anybody, but I was afraid my mom would get angry at me for touching her stuff.

At night, everyone in the inn seemed to be sleeping heavily, except for me, I was damn hungry and was wide awake, I walked up to the window and saw lights, torchlights, dozens of them, and they headed towards the inn, I closed the curtains, all except for a small crack, and I heard an evil chant, a deep guttural chant, that u somehow knew was of satanic origin. I immediately grabbed my crucifix (yes, I'm a Catholic) and headed back to the window, the chants were getting louder and louder, then, all of the lights went out, except for one, the one Maria Duson was carrying.

My daughter has been a little strange lately.

About a week ago, my daughter, age 9, began acting a little odd.

A little background: A couple of years ago, my little girl's mother died from causes I don't really want to go into here, which is something that my daughter and I have been trying to work through.

I have recently received my teaching license to start a new career and hopefully "do what I love and love what I do". A fresh start is something that I believed would do Allie and I some good. We moved to a new city, roughly two hours away from our roots. It's a totally new area for both of us and she seems to be fitting in better than I am. We are currently living in a small 2-bedroom rental house. It's not the best, but it's something to be proud of, I believe.

I've lately been struggling to keep up with the demands of education: classroom management, grading, etc. Staying up past her bedtime to complete some assignments has become a norm. She has been trying to get me to go to bed earlier, sensing that I have become more and more stressed.

Last Tuesday, I was up at around 10 or 11. As I decided to pack up my materials and get off to bed, I stopped by her doorway and looked into her room. She has never had much need for any nightlights, to be honest she hasn't ever really been afraid of much. Looking into her room, it was pitch black. My eyes had trouble adjusted to the darkness. I only heard a faint whisper come from her bed: "He is here." Exactly that. I smiled and assumed she was having some kind of dream. "He wants blood." My face dropped and I walked over to her, stumbling a bit in the darkness. I was planning on waking her up from whatever nightmare it was, but she seemed to have been awake the whole time and was surprised by me coming into the room.

I asked her what was happening but she dodged my every question. She quickly rolled over and went to sleep. I decided to shrug it off and do the same.

The next night, I did manage to get to bed earlier. However, I think that around 2 or 3, I woke up. I heard some movement in the living room and when I walked in there I found Allie sitting indian style facing a wall. The room was also totally dark and I could barely make her out. I touched her back and asked her what she was doing. She kept focused on the wall and very slowly told me that she was working on something. Her hands looked like she was clutching something tightly, so I opened them, finding a needle. After I turned on some lights, I saw that she had carefully poked the tips of each of her fingers causing a small amount of blood to come out of each of them.

I asked her why she did it and she just looked at me with a cold, blank expression and said "Because it needed to be done."

I ushered her back to bed, cleaning her hands. I have no idea where she is getting this stuff from. She stayed with her aunt a couple of weekends ago, and they have watched some kind of horror movie or something (typical of this aunt). Allie is a little adventitious so I am trying to take some of this with a grain of salt (as much as I can).

Any tips? I'll let you know if anything else strange occurs.
