Dead Horse Week - And a new /r/Christianity charity drive! by keatsandyeatsin Christianity

How was WorldVision selected instead of, say, Heifer International? I don't have a problem with WorldVision, I'm just curious.

I may have gotten carried away with my seed starting this year. by iamskewin gardening

If you don't get carried away, you're not doing it right.

I think you're doing it right.

Also, the medical examiner says, "for a raw yam to get it this bad, you need more than gravity," the implication being that the yam was stomped. Turns out, it wasn't raw. (I caught that on the second run through the episode.)

Pennsylvania woman claims backyard beekeeping to be a "health issue". by iLiveInyourTreesin Beekeeping

I'm also allergic to bee-stings, which is why my husband has nixed the bee idea on more than one occasion. His concern is that each reaction (for me) is worse than the one previous.

How many times have you had to use your epi pen?

My lawn includes some yarrow. Pretty drough-tolerant, and it smells great if/when you cut it. So far it's handled our postal worker declining to use the sidewalk for 2 years...

Our soil is pretty dense and clay-like. The gravel is probably my best bet.

Ah, gotcha. I live in the high desert; I wonder if I could get away with bark, since there would be little chance of floating.

Why didn't you want to deal with bark? Because it has to be replenished as the bottom layers decompose?

Mind if I ask how much the gravel cost, and what the square-footage is? I'd need to find a different option up here in Idaho, but man, you've inspired me!!

I use a push-reel mower for the bit of lawn I have left. And electric would be an option here (south central Idaho) because our community runs on hydroelectric power.

I don't water the grass in the back that's left... I let it bake in the summer and use my water for the garden. I have native species in the front yard, with some lawn planted with drought-tolerant species.

I kinda like this guy's gravel... I hate mowing around my garden...

We used to play "chubby bunny" at youth group. I won. Then I spewed giant marshmallows into the garbage can. I feel ya, friend.

Teacher of the deaf here.

  • Did you attend a residential or day program? Are you willing to say which school?
  • What was the "communication philosophy" of your school (bi-bi, TC, etc.)?
  • Is anyone else in your family deaf?
  • When did your parents find out you were deaf?

Using Chickens for pest and weed removal and fertilizer, without ruining everything! by SavagePayerin Permaculture

[–]signingelle 1 point2 points ago

That's what my gut told me. My chickens love green things! I let them free-range if I'm outside to shoo them away from anything delicate, but they only get unsupervised free ranging from late fall to early spring when there's nothing for them to destroy. Their run is sizable, so they have plenty of space. I just like to give them some extra buggy-treats in the rest of the backyard.

I'm always scared to let mine out during growing season. So once the plants are tall and sturdy enough, the chickens will leave them alone? Even lettuces and spinach??

  • Uganda is known for having strong anti-homosexual sentiment (this may be an understatement on my part, but I didn't know how else to word it right now). What are the factors that contribute to such a high level of rejection of LGBT persons?

  • I've read that during the current president's tenure, Uganda's response to HIV/AIDS has been seen as "highly effective." Has this influenced how other African countries are addressing the epidemic?

  • In your travels through Uganda and other countries in the region, did you encounter any children with nodding disease?
