I was shot in the left shin with a ricocheted 9mm round. It hit me just behind the right line of the tibia and lodged inside the bone.

My leg all but crumpled with the impact, and went instantly numb down to my foot. After a few minutes the surrounding tissue around the wound started to ache and burn in ways I'd never felt before nor since. The bleeding, though, was less than I would have expected. After about an hour it began to swell from the trauma, and this is where the real pain began. I couldn't even think about moving it without everything up to my hip screaming at me in retribution. I was completely unable to walk for about three weeks, and on a cane for months afterward. It still hurts when it's cold out.
