Done. :)

*Urgent question* My gf has been told by urgent care to check herself into a hospital for a procedure, but she doesn't have insurance. Would it be better/cheaper if I driver her to a VA or MD hospital rather than a DC one? by its_my_namein washingtondc

[–]scrabbleigh 1 point2 points ago

Call the hospitals and ask! In my experience (4 surgeries, 2 additional hospital admissions), the smaller Maryland hospitals are cheaper, but the expertise of doctors is generally better at the big teaching hospitals.

Check out Holy Cross or Washington Adventist in Silver Spring. Howard U and Washington Hospital Center are both well versed in non-insured patients, so call them as well.

GWU saved my life, but damn expensively. (Same idea at Georgetown).

I've personally received services at all six, those are the ones i can speak to. Hope this helps. Good luck & speedy recovery!

It's shit like this, Florida. Black honors student must share valedictorian honors - school won't say why. by scrabbleighin news

I'm knee-jerk angry about this, but wonder if anyone has the scoop as to what's going on -- does the administration have a reason? Any Gainesville Redditors that can shed some light?

These are my amazing 11th grade students from Oakland, CA. They’ve overcome incredible obstacles and have the ability to get into top colleges, but they lack perspective on opportunities outside Oakland. Reddit, can you “adopt” us and help us raise money to visit great colleges? by jsrjsrin Assistance

You're welcome! I hope you raise enough for the Boston trip - keep us updated! You could also repost in r/education and r/pics to get a bit more visibility. Good luck!

Can Reddit Help Find This Man? "This is the only photo I have of my roommate who saved my life during a battle with meningitis in 1987 (USMC). I cannot remember his name and haven't seen him since that fateful night." by oxgonin pics

[–]scrabbleigh 3 points4 points ago

OP, you mentioned on Google+ that you have a list of names, but no roommate assignments. That list of names is a huge help. Look up as many names as you can on Facebook, Google, LinkedIn. When you find someone, message them with a copy of the picture. If they were there at the same time, they might be able to recall additional information (name, hometown, etc.) that will help you find your roommate. Even better, they might know exactly who he is! Good luck!

Right on, Kanye. by STAY-GOLDin funny

So it could be called needlepoint instead of cross-stitch, but this non-cross stitch (straight stitch or back stitch) is used in "cross stitch" for outlining and writing. It's sorta like how we call tissue Kleenex. Most needlepoint gets called cross-stitch even if cross-stitch isn't one of the stitches used on the project.

Source: grew up in the Midwest. Crafts are mandatory.

I realized I was looking at knitting.

sewing, or more specifically cross-stitch.

Question about commuting to work. Will be moving next week to start a real job. by threestripes4in washingtondc

[–]scrabbleigh 8 points9 points ago

Take the metro. Car traffic is awful in DC and the red line will take you from DuPont to Rockville faster than driving. An hour commute is normal in the city - I live and work in DC and my commute is 45 minutes across town.

Buy a kindle and read on the metro, play angry birds on your phone or read the Express each day.

It would cost you $70/day to rent a zipcar -- they are awesome for quick trips or heavy loads though.

Yea, there's no immediate financial incentive for me to close one way or the other -- just wondering about the tax year.

At this point, I think I've maxed out on the closing costs that can be paid by [not me] through my loan, but thanks!

TIL my last name, Manko, is Japanese slang for cunt. What does your last name mean? by gyo80in AskReddit

Tedesco?

Edit: sir dimos beat me to it. This is a family surname, and when I lived in Italy, I was so confused trying to find relatives when everyone I asked kept saying stuff about Germany. Finally, someone figured it out and clued me in.

Thanks. Me too! I probably won't take a full breath until the keys are in my hands, but having the money figured out is huge! :)

You totally can. The pic is by Alex Ruiz, and it's available here: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/starry-night-alex-ruiz.html. If you want just the sky, email the artist. I bought this print on canvas for my bedroom after emailing w/ him. It's awesome.
