One of the best IPAs I ever has was at the Strahov Brewery in Prague a few years ago. It definitely tasted like a citruisy hopped american IPA, but the malt flavor was clean and crisp, not sweet at all.

I have had just about every IPA I can find to try to get something like it in the US, and the closest I can come is 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die IPA.

I took this the day Obama got inaugurated. It cracks me up every time. by summitrockin pics

Indeed, much better than that through the gill type. You can still choose to release afterward if you don't feel like cleaning.

That type of stringer hooks though the jaw, not the gill.

Full moon fishing has been a walleye tactic for as long as anyone remembers. I've had some truly amazing nights with a full moon out there. There is going to be the fullest moon of the year this weekend (Moon closest to Earth), maybe give it a shot! I know I'm planning on it.

I'm just going to leave this here.

Stories PDF

These are the things I learned about the accidents I worked on in my years of car fires.

You do not want to read it. Trust me.

I wrote them down so I could forget about them. It worked. I hadn't thought about them since moving to my new job a three years ago. I had to get them out of my head.

(copied from another answer I gave) I worked fire cases intently for 4 years, and still have in a limited capacity for the last three. I worked thousands of cases, but I can count the number of foreign vehicles on two hands, and most of those weren't strong cases.

Myself? I drive a Subaru. Since the 70's Subaru has protected all their fuel lines inside the body of the car. They are a model for good design in many aspects of fuel systems.

I worked cases where a hell of a lot of people burned up to death, and I don't want to go out that way, so I drive a Subaru.

This is correct. It just will never be the same. The seams in the body panels will never be quite right, and that effects the windflow and the door opening and all sorts of things.

For 90% of people they will never notice it. For me, I will.

Because published data is very close to real world data. I've done it myself. The work and price is not worth the accurateness of 2-5%. The computer programs also provide you the option of changing the coefficient of friction easily.

Photogrammetry is very accurate. I have been accurate to within 1/16th of an inch at about 12-15ft out.

Newer vehicles are undoubtedly safer. They are lightyears safer than what you are driving. In the last few years the advances are literally amazing.

As far as safe cars? I worked mostly in fire cases. You would be appalled in an engineering mind if you ever really investigated your fuel system. There are so many ways it goes wrong with poor engineering.

The field is wide open as far as I know. My firm is always looking for people. We have nearly doubled our work force in the last few years. Our problem is qualified candidates.

Well, the Ford Pinto is the classical example. There are several others, the side saddle gas tanks on the Chevy trucks were an abomination.

Despite the modified testing Dateline did back in the day that got them in trouble, shielding a 26 gallon fuel tank outside the frame rails with just the outside sheet metal on a truck was a bad idea. Almost as bad as the previous generation of Chevy truck which had the gas tank literally inside the cab of the truck right behind the driver's seat.

Or the Ford Crown Victoria (also Lincoln Towncars), which is often used as a police cruiser. That had a bigass fuel tank located right behind the rear bumper (the 90's mustangs had the same), when everyone knew that in order to protect a fuel tank you put it in FRONT of the rear axle. And in a rear end collision that fuel tank just blew the fuck up.

Guess who spends a lot of time pulled over on the side of the road in a parked car? Police officers. guess who gets rear ended a lot? I investigated a suit involving 26 officers who burned to death in those cars.

There are a lot more which are more technical, but those are the big ones.

This is legendary in reconstruction circles. Right up there with the Ivey Memo

Oh, it seems CNN edited the actual memo out. Here's an imgur copy: Imgur

Seatbelts and airbags are the best things ever. Hell seatbelts alone. Read your local paper closely next time, every nasty traffic fatality generally includes the phrase "was not wearing a seatbelt", or "thrown from the vehicle".

Michelin tires are the best, hands down.

Did you use the Berkley knot? It's tested as being one of the strongest knots out there. Basically a blood knot with another loop through the hook hole.
