Does Pittsburgh want a new craft brewery? by TERRYbytein pittsburgh

[–]salpara 6 points7 points ago

Please don't just brew a super-hoppy IPA. The beer I find to be sorely missing from craft brewers all over is a really good Czech-style pilsner. I go to a bar where they serve East End Brewery beers, Yeungling, and Guinness. Most of the guys there sit and drink Miller Lite out of bottles. Sure, the price has something to do with it, but I think despite how good East End's beer is they don't have any one kind that is good to drink more than a few of. I typically start out with a Fat Gary or Black Strap Stout and then just drink Yeungling even though it's not that much cheaper where I go. Taking that into account, if you could figure out how to make a really solid pilsner that didn't break the bank, I think you'd take over!

Woody Guthrie: A Life - by Joe Klein by salparain WoodyGuthrie

If you've never read this, do yourself the favor. It's by far the best biography I've ever read. The amazing things that Woody did during his life will astound you. This book is full of comedy, tragedy, and everything in between. Especially after reading this, I feel very strongly that Woody Guthrie is the quintessential American.

I was fishing the other day, standing in the stream with no waders about waist-deep and a snake came swimming up to me holding a fish sideways in its mouth like that. I splashed and it headed the other direction, but man did that give me the heebie-jeebies.

As a former Volvo owner, I was always really tempted to acquire a letter 'e' from some other car and attach it to mine so it read "eVolvo" - You should just sell attachable ones.

I drove my first car, a '90 240DL with manual transmission, into the ground...got up to around 250k miles. I will forever look back on that car fondly. I doubt I'll ever have another that I'll love as much.

I just bought this mask. My wife is at 34 weeks. It'll take everything I've got to do it, but should I hold back my urge to scare the hell out of her? by salparain daddit

This is pretty much what I ended up doing. She was busy doing some pre-natal pilates and I came walking out of the bedroom with the mask on. She was briefly startled, but just thought it was funny.

Unfortunately, you're probably right. This video is one of the reasons I paused before doing it.

I'm sorry for Mr. Boston, but it seems this is going to be a self-fulfilling prophesy. If he wasn't a complete scumbag before, he has to be one now.

I didn't realize what the dates of this were when I posted. My daughter should be born on June 11th if the due date is correct. Babies like bluegrass, right?

I really don't get this. Why is this embarrassing or shameful? Is it just because they're implying that it's a success to be in H&SS because finals are supposedly easier?

The "Chicken Mushroom" by superhyphyin wikipedia

[–]salpara 0 points1 point ago

Sure is. The Slovaks jokingly call mushroom picking their national sport, but sometimes it seems like it's not really a joke at all. I do love to go out and wander the woods picking mushrooms now and I've finally developed an eye for the right ones. It's a delicious hobby.

I clearly don't have the same knowledge of baseball as you nor allegiance to the Pirates like you had. I now understand your frustration better, but it seems to me that the Pirates have lately been taking steps in the right direction (signing McCutcheon for 6 years, for example).

My wife and her family (now me too) pick these in Slovakia all the time. They call them "kuriatka" which pretty much means "chicken mushroom." I've never thought they taste like chicken, but they do sure taste wonderful in a bowl of soup.

Restaurant/bar advice by starfruit_operationin pittsburgh

I'd definitely choose the Map Room in Regent Square. They have a great scotch selection, East End beers on tap, excellent food that isn't expensive, and there are other bars in the vicinity if you want to move to a livelier venue with a ton of beer choices (D's).

Hi there! I'm producing an all ages comedy TV show for Pittsburgh! "Multiverse" (Airing on Pittsburgh Community Television) Here's the teaser. by willyfreshin pittsburgh

[–]salpara 2 points3 points ago

I'd suggest you be a bit less of a tease in the next video. I have absolutely no idea what this is about from that teaser other than what inferences I can draw from the belching sound effects.
