I don't know a lot about heads and cabs but... by kylerisapissedofmanin Guitar

Which head is it? The resistance (ohms) need to match between the speaker output and cabinet. The Orange PPC112 is 16 ohms.

Wife has given me a budget of $1000 (give or take) to buy a new amp with tax refund, looking for advice. by scottycujoin Guitar

Keep her! As for the amp I've found the Carvin V3 to be very versatile. It does the cleans pretty well and the moderate to heavy distortion very well.

Andy McKee is considering doing an AMA on reddit, saw it on his facebook this morning. How cool is that! Let's hope he does it. by AthlonRobin Guitar

I made the mistake of giving a thumbs up to a John Fahey song on a Pandora station and now every other song is Andy McKee. Either Pandora is playing the same song repeatedly or all of his songs sound very similar.

I have a crush on the dwarf in the next tunnel, but I'm not sure if she is like me or if he isn't, if you know what I mean. by rufusdogin discworldproblems

What's worse is that we both like the song "Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold"... and you KNOW what that is about!

The pressure of performing live makes me want to quit my band. Advice/Insight? by synstaley1620in Guitar

[–]rufusdog 2 points3 points ago

Go play at open mic nights. The pressure is much less, you only play a few songs, you get to talk to other musicians who are just as stressed as you, you get to see amazing players, you get to see other people bomb, and you get to practice in front of people without it seeming to matter as much. It is very helpful.

Does anyone have any experience with dirty power issues when using a tube amp? Need to eliminate an issue. Help me out! by hollywoodhuskeyin Guitar

[–]rufusdog 0 points1 point ago

The general rule of thumb is that your UPS's maximum power output should be roughly double what you are drawing steadily. A 350 watt UPS should be able to handle ~180 watts worth of gear plugged in and running at the same time. More than that over a long period of time will stress the UPS, cause uneven performance, heat issues, and shorten battery life.

Do you know any drills or tips to help with tremolo picking? by tonetonitonyin Guitar

This. Here is a mandolin tutorial, but the idea is the same. Some people rotate their wrist more than moving it back and forth.

Tips for recording guitar from amp at home. by gtahunt3rin Guitar

The fan noise from your computer is a killer too. Try to get the amp as far away as possible.

I would require at least two former lives. If you believe in that sort of a thing.

Extinct? No, canis lupus familiaris are still quite plentiful throughout the world.

I'm working on ukulele TAB for the Promenade. Almost done with it and will post with video soon. There are already some good guitar versions online.

Anyone have experience with selector combiner pedals? by FenderJaguarin Guitar

[–]rufusdog 0 points1 point ago

I do not have this exact pedal, but I do have a similar Morley A/B switch that I've used for years to switch between amps. It has been rock solid, I haven't noticed any signal loss, and the switching is dead quiet.

edit: This is the one I have and it works perfectly.

Filmed this dude last week, would be great to get your feedback - Recording Acoustic Guitar - Mic Placement by adfot1in Guitar

[–]rufusdog 2 points3 points ago

Thanks for posting this; I found it useful. However, I think it is a bit much to expect a guitarist to change picks for a recording. It would have been more helpful to see how to re-position the mics to compensate for different picks and playing styles.
