I think SubNoize is onto something.

I know of the portals. I remember killing all three goatmen at one without thinking, and seeing one come OUT of the portal, killing him too... and then the portal actually took a beat to close. It made a very loud noise and my character deadpanned the line mentioned, "The portal has been closed for good."

I remember getting a little sixth sense pang, like maybe I just missed something. But I ignored it at the time. I think they're worth investigating.

So if it's intentional, it may be indicating who in the party must open or initiate or move through the goblin portal? Does that mean you must have three people to get into the goblin portal? That would fit with the overarching theme of three, but I'm not sure if that means the three must each do something to open the portal or not.

Perhaps there's a item set that you must equip? That could potentially make a goblin zone... harder to traverse.
