Have you surpassed the previous goals and expectations you set for yourself, and what are your current life goals?

Alternatively, what motivates you to keep doing better?

Why is our brain in our head and not our chest with the rest of our vital organs? by Guustaafin askscience

[–]rickiibeta 0 points1 point ago

Correct. However, the explanation goes deeper than merely distinguishing the difference between a question and a statement because the two are not mutually exclusive.

To my understanding, "layman speculation" is banned in order to prevent a statement being submitted with implicit authority that doesn't exist. In asking if a speculation is correct, said authority is not implied.

Penis Math. by linkrobinin funny

[–]rickiibeta 0 points1 point ago

Mathematician here. This is quite wrong.

The averages are taken from a sample with a size clearly less than 3billion. Probably a couple thousand (if the studies are worth their salt). For a round and reasonable number let's say 1,000. Then you would need to raise the total sample penis length from 3,800" to 5,500", a difference of 1,700" or 141.6'.

Euler/Oiler Tee Shirt by berberjewelryin math

[–]rickiibeta 0 points1 point ago

Funny story: I was at starbucks ordering the pumpkin spice latte and they asked for my name. I said, "Euler [oiler], e-u-l-e-r." She wrote Euler on the cup and passed it on to be made. The look of the girl who made the drink and tried to call out "my" name when it was ready was hilarious.

Math troll is math.

You get spit on because you're forcing your views onto people who don't want them. If you don't like the spit, you can leave. If they don't like the protesting, they can't leave--so they spit, literally and figuratively.

It's not just me.

Mathematics, rightly viewed, posses not only truth, but supreme beauty; a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture

-Bertrand Russell

The mathematical sciences particularly exhibit order, symmetry, and limitation; and these are the greatest forms of the beautiful.

-Aristotle

It is true that the mathematician who is not somewhat of a poet, will never be a perfect mathematician.

IMO you're trying to argue the beauty of maths to someone who doesn't understand maths well enough to appreciate them. Every mathematical great has reflected on the beauty and art of mathematics, and this guy disagreeing with that doesn't bother or surprise me at all. Thanks for the effort, you're a gentlemen, but I think this guy is a lost cause.

What is the most advanced mathematics you understand?

I tend to use words like breath-taking when I am actually short of breath.

I've been literally short of breath when I have fully understood certain math concepts--like the proof of Euler's Theorem or Sylows Theorems, or The Fundamental Theorem of Galois theory.

The extremist remark is clearly not directed towards people who are merely pro-life. Show me a poll that shows 50% of Americans are pro pressuring a charity into removing their support to a company that helps low income individuals diagnose cancer because they also finance abortions and you have a point.

Half of the country is pro-life. That does not extend to half of the country being against Planned Parenthood, or half of the country pressuring SGK into stopping their funding to Planned Parenthood.

News flash. Opinion is tied with pro-choice dominating the majority in most of gallups history. I'm sure it feels good in your fantasy land, but here in reality the issue is quite divided. Don't argue, just GTFO

I agree, it is a complex issue. Technically speaking I did participate in labeling in my post by calling the far political right who forced Komen's hand 'extremists', but I believe it to be accurate in terms of their actions and distance from political center.

I want to be clear: I don't think you are a misogynist. As for the difference you ask for, reproductive freedom does not include killing a 1 month old because it is the owner of its body. That is, it is no longer apart of the mothers reproductive process. A fetus, however, is not the owner of its body until birth; it sustains itself off of the mother and is part of her reproductive system.

I agree when the decision is small. But something like this deserve destruction--you have to make people pay for catering to extremists because we, the moderates, don't have time for a public outcry every time someone listens to the people yelling the loudest. That's how the right has moved into crazy land; slowly, over time, they bowed to extremist pressure while the moderates were too busy to take notice and force them back toward the center.
