"Lazy" weightloss by Sylamatekin loseit

[–]rakatu 1 point2 points ago

Exercise makes you stronger/more fit. Eating less than BMR (google a base metabolic rate calculator) makes you lose weight. You can count calories (my fitness pal) or try keto or paleo (these tend to work for a while without counting calories). At your weight/height you will most likely need to count calories. You technically don't need any exercise at all. To keep from losing muscle while you lose weight keep your protein intake up (35% or more of your daily calories) and do some basic strength training a few times a week (you can do body weight exercises for this or keep doing your routine).

TL;DR: Diet is all that matters in weight loss.

Egypt cancels Israeli gas contract: Termination of 20-year deal, which provided 40% of Israel's natural gas, seen as sign of fraying relations between allies by davidreiss666in worldnews

[–]rakatu -3 points-2 points ago*

I don't know much about the gasline but its clear that Israel is not responsible for shortages in Egypt by "sucking it all up" while Eqypt controls the source and pipeline. Mubarak and his regime are likely to blame for that one.

I just want to comment that the allegations about the sharks were that they were bred by israel to be aggressive in the same way that certain breeds of dog are bred to be aggressive (aggression was originally bred into dobermans and rottweilers etc and is now being bred out). Additionally sharks can be made aggressive by conditioning them to not fear humans.

Although it may be a conspiracy theory, It is not entirely implausible that Israel could breed/condition and release aggressive sharks into waters vital to the egyptian tourist industry (which Egypt depends on heavily) in order to create a greater economic dependence on israel and/or the US. These types of subterfuge are not uncommon among "frenemy" nations (pardon the phrase).

edit: Artificial Selection

Shark conditioning- More shark conditioning

Russians (as much the US's ally as Israel is to Egypt) spy on the US- first thing I could think of off the top of my head involving the US. I'm sure there's more, if you really want I can look up some links later.

[nsv] Keep on Keeping on r/keto by rakatuin keto

[–]rakatu[S] 1 point2 points ago

my exercise consisted of gym 2-3 times a week and hiking/swimming/sports with friends. just staying active.

As for plateaus, the rule of thumb is to wait 2 to 3 weeks before calling it a plateau. Body recomposition is no small task. the plateau could be adding muscle as you lose fat or retaining water.

Get a tape measure, take pictures, or be aware of how your clothes/belt fit. These are much better indications of fat loss. If you don't see changes for 2-3 weeks check your diet. Are your carbs below 20g? If so are your calories below RMR (use a calculator online to find out). If your diet checks out then you could try a controlled cheat where you eat healthy carbs for a meal or a day to "reset" yourself. Be wary of cheats though. If you cheat and you're not actually on a plateau you will set yourself back a few days. (not really a huge deal long run and I'm certainly guilty of it but not really condusive to our goals either. Haha)

some advice for MythBusters... by ryannayr140in AdviceAnimals

Yes it does a great job of promoting science to a largely uneducated public, which is vastly important given the fact that politicians seem to be moving the US away from science.

But that doesn't stop the fact that the show is very un-scientific in its protocol from bugging the hell out of me.

I'm done losing weight, thanks to keto :-) Do I need to up my calories now or just maintain macros?? by madmalletmoverin keto

[–]rakatu 1 point2 points ago

I've read that once you hit your goal you should set a cap (allowing for water fluctuation) that you won't let yourself pass. Say your goal is 170 and you hit it. Set a cap at 180 or 185, and if you get to that point go straight back to diet mode to keep from slipping back into old habits. Besides the cap, just eat when you're hungry and stay active and don't let the good habits you've created for yourself slip away!

I just started and I need some help; I am constantly hungry by redpandapawin loseit

[–]rakatu 0 points1 point ago

You could just kill your appetite by eating a vegetable you don't like.

Eating mostly carbs creates hunger because of insulin spikes. Try adding more protein to avoid those.

losing strength while trying to lose weight by fredsterchesterin Fitness

[–]rakatu 1 point2 points ago

Gaining strength while losing weight usually results in really slow results in both departments. I have seen others post about success with CKD or TKD (methods of nutrient timing with carb intake) if you want to try.

Usual advice is to keep your protein up and keep lifting to maintain while cutting. If you don't like the bulking/cutting there are many diets for lean gains.

Paying the carb piper.... (cheat story) by jjmorris100in keto

[–]rakatu 1 point2 points ago

Reintroducing carbs will make you retain water, have a weird GI as it readjusts to digesting them, and more intense hunger from drops in blood sugar due to insulin.

The Vomiting was likely a result of the fact that frozen burritos are not the best quality and keto tends to be a pretty clean diet. After eating fresh meats and veggies for a while I couldn't even handle microwave sausage without feeling sick.

Third day on Keto- Help. Me. by silvercloudsin keto

People have mixed results with the low carb icecream (sugar alcohols). Try berries and cream (no sugar added to the cream).

Water!

I killed my cravings with cheese. Its so fat dense that it immediately smothers any real or boredom induced hunger no matter how specific. Don't worry about calories getting through keto flu. After the first week or so the cravings go away for the most part and its pretty smooth sailing.

[–]rakatu 0 points1 point ago*

I wouldn't worry about it at all until about 6 months out, start looking through some books and get the material in your head. 3 months before take a course or seriously study those books. Memorizing everything won't get you terribly far but you should be really familiar with all the material and get those physics equations/ basic mental math skills down. Its more critical thinking and test taking skills than memorize and dump. One month out start taking practice tests. Practice tests are the most important part. Get your timing down and go over every single question. Take it easy and stick to a regular schedule/diet and plenty of sleep the week of the test.

edit: dont worry about the essays at all, i didnt do any practice just read the book on how to do them, they're taking them out soon and all the school cares about is your personal statement. And don't stress too hard, getting in your own head will only mess up your timing and you'll second guess yourself. Worst case scenario you take it again

[Rant] Four weeks straight of plateau? And I know the scale isn't broken! by afriendtosellin keto

[–]rakatu 1 point2 points ago

I agree with this. Once you get into the normal weight range you're body really becomes super efficient to hold onto those pounds (especially if you're female (I can't tell from your post)). At this point its all about calories and time (it'll be slow going now that you're 'normal'). Having higher calorie days and lower calorie days while averaging out below BMR for the week keeps your body from engaging these mechanisms.

They have this in the US as well. Usually they do it to get a more mature crowd. (not there to get crazy drunk, usually have more money, bit more settled etc)

How many calories are you eating? by Talindrasin keto

[–]rakatu 0 points1 point ago

They usually have breading in meatballs and the serving is usually like 3 so its easy to get a lot of carbs. Basically they sneak carbs into anything processed as they are great fillers, texture, preservative, etc.

Also I originally had a problem with making the distinction of eat til im full/satisfied and eat what I want. They are completely different things. When I eat when I feel like it (not necessarily actually hungry or with an empty stomach) my cals get pretty high.

Is it possible to get FAT using the keto diet? by madmalletmoverin keto

[–]rakatu 0 points1 point ago

Excrete through urine? Do you have a source? Everything I know at biology says that organisms are super efficient with their energy and excreting excess energy does not make sense to me in that frame.

If you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, you WILL be successfull. by Jeffenatrixin GetMotivated

[–]rakatu 2 points3 points ago

Dedication, ambition and drive are important but you have to be smart about how you go about it. Sleep and eat when you need to because the more sleep and nutrient deprived you are the less effective you are. You also have to know when to quit and not become emotionally involved. If you keep pushing a failed project you're just draining your time and resources for nothing and not only is that project a failure, but every other opportunity you gave up for it. It's not just about working hard. Its about working smart as well.
