The successes and failures of Diablo 3. by lolpancakeslolin Games

[–]purrp 6 points7 points ago

The blacksmith would make sense in the absence of an AH. As it is, you can try crafting 3-4 items for a slot to get vaguely relevant stats, or you can take the same money to the AH and buy a vastly superior item.

There is a chance of getting amazing items through crafting, but the costs simply make no sense given the alternatives. In D2 gambling was pretty much the only thing you could actually spend gold on.

Is Diablo 3 missing something? Why doesn't it grab me like Diablo 2 does? by JamesofNin Diablo

[–]purrp 1 point2 points ago

I think the relatively unimaginative loot also has something to do with it. Like someone else said, loot has always been the carrot stuck in front of players in Diablo 2, but the carrot is rotten.

Still loving the game so far, and I'm assuming Blizzard will add more depth to itemization over time, but the AH / gold grinding aspect will still be there. If the game feels more like a steady job than playing the lottery, it's just not going to be as much fun.

Higher chance to get magic items?

Let's compile a list of changes we would like to see in the first post-release patch. by only__downvotesin Diablo

1) Re-vamp legendaries and set items. Current legendary and set items look like very good blues with a different color in name. Legendaries should have truly unique effects, just like in D2.

If I had one wish that could magically change one thing in D3, I would spend it on this.

I don't even care if legendaries are strictly better, I just want them to be more interesting. I'm okay with having to choose between a rare with great stats and a legendary with worse stats but a really interesting or fun effect.

Legendary / Set items Immenseley Undertuned, High-end Weapons Trivialized by psyoungerin Diablo

[–]purrp 1 point2 points ago

I hope that's not Blizzard's stance, because it's short-sighted. In the long term blues and rares are boring, they're just numbers. The occasional godly rare is great, but you just can't have the same emotional attachment and irrational lust for rares as for the most high-end, hardest to get uniques and sets in D2. If the items are boring in the long term, people will play less, and will use the RMAH less.

How Diablo III's Solo Experience Reveals A Hollow Game by limbclockin Games

[–]purrp 0 points1 point ago

The people who enjoyed the game the most didn't just click their way through the campaign. They played in ways that required discipline and dedication.

What does that even mean? How do you quantify how much someone enjoyed the game relative to someone else, and what makes you say the "most" enjoyment came from playing the game a certain way?

Releasing updates to an existing product goes better than releasing a brand new product? I am shocked.

Warning: high trolling content. If that doesn't bother you, then this is easily the most fun you'll have in Eve.

[–]purrp 3 points4 points ago

I'm not sure if I would call EVE the "best" community, but it's easily the most complex and interesting community. There is incredible community support for new players (EVE University, many large alliances have training divisions, etc.) On the other hand it can be far, far less forgiving than any other community - players can make your life a living hell much more than in other games, and will often do so for fun if given a chance. The trick is to have allies behind you, which is why the community is so important.

There is a lot of trolling but it tends to be more interesting or amusing. People who just rage a lot and can't string two sentences together tend not to last very long in EVE.

I have never played any of the Diablo games, but I would like to. Please r/Games, tell me what makes them so amazing. by OutofOrbitin Games

[–]purrp 0 points1 point ago

It only takes up a lot of time if you get hooked :) In which case it's probably worth it, almost by definition.

There will be a free "starter edition" for Diablo 3, you can give that a shot.

there have since been new and better aRPGs released

Can you give me examples? The "better" part is obviously subjective, but I'm curious which titles you had in mind.

Only ones off the top of my head would be Titan's Quest, Torchlight, and Borderlands. I enjoyed all three, but wouldn't personally consider them better.

To earn $1,000,000 in six months, why not just... earn $1,000,000?

Start by earning $50,000 in the first month, then add an extra $50,000 every month, before you know it you'll be over $1,000,000. The only trick is to keep doing it every month.

shrug

Then don't get a physical copy, I don't care :)

Also, there's quite a logical jump from "buying the physical box" to "in a position where they don't do anything but play video games".

[–]purrp -1 points0 points ago

Nah, it's just down the street, it's like a 2 minute walk.

Normally I agree, and I spend way too much money on Steam :) I already have the game pre-downloaded and I'll be installing it before I even get the box. But it doesn't cost any extra to get the box, and I have all the other ones for Diablo games, so why not?

Diablo III Amazon's most preordered PC game ever by Tveiin Diablo

[–]purrp 6 points7 points ago

That logic seems backwards... only reason I'd bother with the digital version is if it was cheaper than the box.

The "play it earlier" logic doesn't even apply, I'll just go pick up a box at midnight and won't be able to start playing until 3am anyway.
