How to make sure your children never become Christians by puffyjenkinsin atheism

[–]puffyjenkins[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. It seems he's trying to argue that one cannot appreciate beauty without attributing it to God... I mean, c'mon, I can find tons of beauty in the night sky. The fact that starts are gaseous nuclear infernos does nothing to detract from it--rather, it adds another layer of complexity and interest to it. The universe is absolutely AWESOME.

Oh, sorry for the confusion. I added a few additional details in a comment on this post.

I guess I should have argued with her and posted a screenshot of the resulting drama, to document the ever-widening rift between cousins with differing viewpoints.

My very religious cousin posted this on Facebook a few moments ago. I abstain from religious arguments for the sake of preserving familial relationships, but this video made me plant my face firmly into my hands. Oy.

Both of those sound quite nice, as do your price expectations. How much could you feasibly ship while staying in the $10 shipping range? I could go for two pounds of each, if that isn't unreasonable. EDIT: Shipping to Kentucky, should that help your shipping calculations.

I too find that a bit of sediment comes from the sides of the paper if I rush the plunge.

It is a sort of large quantity pour-over. I'm not sure that other pour-over brewers use strictly cone-shaped filters, though.

Thanks! I took these to show a friend my chemex and realized r/coffee would probably enjoy them too. :D

Yeah, that's correct.

I usually either drink 2-3 cups back to back or make enough for everybody to have a cup or two, and usually it doesn't last too long. Enough to notice the flavor change a bit as it cools, but not enough for it to to become unpleasant to drink by any means.

[–]puffyjenkins[S] 2 points3 points ago

If nobody else is interested in having coffee at the time, I'll usually make two or three cups. I don't find the paper taste to be all that strong or offensive, although I do make an effort to make a larger batch (or a french press) when trying new beans.

EDIT: I forgot to say that I've been meaning to try some different filters, but I'll probably hold off until I'm closer to the end of the current box.

It's a Chemex. They have sizes from three cups up to ten cups (thirteen cups on one of the hand-blown models). Their cups measurement is... five ounces, I believe? Anyways, mine is the eight cup model and I love it. Functional and beautiful.

If I was so inclined, could i use my regular Mr. Coffee as a Pourover? by DiddyCityin Coffee

[–]puffyjenkins 0 points1 point ago

If you have a mason jar funnel and refold a normal coffee filter into a cone (or purchase something like a set of chemex filters), you can do a decent pourover. Before I purchased a chemex I would occasionally do a home-rig pourover with the filter basket from a Bunn machine. Controlling the water temperature and grounds saturation does improve the quality of coffee you make, so it's worth trying it out.

How do I find out the tamper size for my espresso machine? by whiskeysnowconein Coffee

[–]puffyjenkins 0 points1 point ago

I have a steam machine as well. I aim to level off the coffee and do a light tamp--just enough to smooth and level the surface of the coffee. I also grind a bit more coarsely than I expect I would for a pump machine to compensate for the lack of consistent pressure. You can tweak the variables to get a passable slightly-less-than espresso strength drink out of it.

If nothing else, mine has inspired me to save up for a good espresso machine down the road.

I haven't seen somebody use "coolface" instead of "troll face" in a while. It's kind of silly, but I got a nice nostalgic laugh out of it.
