First post to EMS - a slight rant by Helassaidin ems

One of the biggest benefits of the company I work for is the flexible schedule. If somebody doesn't feel like working, they can post the shift on the trade board and as long as it gets covered, no harm no foul.

Question from a future EMT-B: reality check? by merinettein ems

One of my partners fits your physical description to the letter, and I would take her over just about anybody else in my company. Being a competent provider aside, she is scrappy and can handle anything thrown at her. Don't be discouraged.

Personal preference. My favorite thought on cheap scopes (and from a physician) is that if you can hear something with a K-Mart special scope, you are really hearing it. With the more expensive scopes, you may "think" you are hearing something but it is really just nothing being over analyzed because you can hear every little noise.

Just was offered a part time job as a medic, $11.50 an hour. by shadowandlightin ems

Was back home (Lakeland) last week and noticed a bunch of AMR trucks and PCEMS is now PCFR? Didn't they make all the EMS personnel go through fire standards awhile back? Are they working on a complete assimilation of fire and EMS or keeping it separate but under the same name?

Bossman got them for us to carry at work. It's funny, I'll sleep right through the work one but if I'm home and my volley department pager goes off I'm up and getting dressed before I even think about what I'm doing.

Funny enough, I hate the smell of smoke; its why I smoke the menthol silvers (don't smell that bad). I am also obsessive about washing my hands and chewing gum/brushing my teeth right after smoking. Most people are shocked when the find out I'm a smoker :P

It's kind of a social activity. I quit for a few weeks every so often but always end starting again. Honestly, I enjoy smoking and that makes it hard to commit. My goal is to for real quit this year but we'll see. I just found /r/stopsmoking, so maybe I'll get up the motivation from that.

Most things I carry are cheap and/or disposable. Doesn't pay to have nice things in this job.

  • ADC Stethoscope (quality but cheap enough I won't cry if it disappears)
  • Pocket Drug Reference
  • Pocket Medical Protocols
  • Notepad
  • Marlboro Menthol Silvers
  • Bic Lighter
  • Wet Ones
  • Eyeglass Cleaner Wipes
  • Oakley Fives
  • Oxygen Wrench
  • Burt's Bees Chapstick
  • Motorola Minitor V
  • Motorola XTS 1500
  • Alpha/Numeric Company Pager
  • Surefire EP4 Sonic Defender Ear Plugs
  • My Pen
  • Everybody Else's Pen
  • Sharpie
  • Highlighter
  • Disposable Pen Light
  • Trauma Shears
  • Gerber Knife
  • CPR Pocket Mask
  • M&Ms (for those days I just don't lunch)

Not pictured: iPhone 4S, Columbia Ravenous Trail Watch, and a shit load of disposable gloves.

My current company did not. However, if you ever in an accident and something show up you are pretty fucked.

This shit happens all the time around here. Between us and the "service calls" fire gets, people quite literally call 911 for everything.

Newly Cleared EMT-B asking for advice regarding MVAs by MarkovnikovRulesin ems

[–]prorandom 0 points1 point ago

I haven't had a personal experience with it, but both services I run for are very particular about the wording from past incidents. Not entirely sure you as the provider would get screwed per sa, but it is one less thing for the blood suckers to latch on to in court.

Watch where you put your hands. Getting stuck with broken glass sucks. Also, don't go rushing into the scene; set up your equipment while fire secures the car. Oh, and it might sound picky but try to avoid using the term MVA. Lawyers suck and if you get subpoenaed you are better off having "crash/collision" and not "accident" written on your PCR.
