2002 ford focus. starting issue by deer_dance9in Cartalk

[–]poserkidsrus 2 points3 points ago

ever change the fuel filter? does the fuel pump relay work properly? how about your fuel pump? does it come on when you turn the key to the second position? with your ear to the fuel door you should hear it whine. if it does, that rules out the relay and the pump, however it does not rule out the filter. check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. if you have no or very low pressure, then your fuel filter is clogged. now if you have good pressure, then its your injectors. this is all assuming you have no codes. you're welcome.

Help with valve adjustment? by poserkidsrusin 250r

[–]poserkidsrus[S] 0 points1 point ago

well i checked the tolerance before i loosened them and they were out pretty bad, mostly on the exhaust side. i know the exhaust side spec is looser, but these were way out of spec.

if the cam sensor is bad, the car will not start. replace the cam sensor.

nooo no not steam. steam is smaller than water droplets and has a much easier time getting inside of plugs and whatnot.

2001 Toyota Corolla - Oil needs consistent "refilling" after any long drive by Nick2632in MechanicAdvice

[–]poserkidsrus 5 points6 points ago

park it overnight ontop of a big piece of cardboard. see if it leaks anywhere. follow her and tell her to accelerate quickly, then decelerate. if you see smoke, thats the valvestem seals. do a leakdown test on the cylinders, see if the rings are bad, making her burn oil.

you tug on enough weiners, eventually you're gonna get some grip strength.

its a tiny box with wires and a magnet inside of it. what a relay does is use a small amount of power to connect the magnet and the wires inside of it. relays "use a small amount of power to control a larger current" such as a light.

you could try jumping power across the relay for a second. you have to check the wiring diagram to see which hole is power and which is output to the left signal.

edit: disregard that. just plug in a different relay, such as the horn relay, and see if that fixes it.

Air Escaping Coolant Cap by Knowlteyin Cartalk

[–]poserkidsrus 0 points1 point ago

yes! thats where the excess fluid and pressure go when the motor is hot. if your car overheats, thats where it boils because there is less pressure owing to the holes in the cap. they call it the "overflow" tank.

1975 C10 custom throttle response issue. by Quartermain189in MechanicAdvice

[–]poserkidsrus 2 points3 points ago

perhaps too much air going in the carb causing it to lean out, or just a blockage somewhere in the jets not allowing enough fuel volume to get by quick enough to keep up with the influx of air.

[–]poserkidsrus 3 points4 points ago

exactly. any of the shops i've worked at, the small minority of younger people were the only ones who knew anything about the actual principles of the electronic systems in the vehicles. most of the old techs only knew how to tell if certain specific things had gone wrong, and how to barely follow a trouble tree.

any codes? parts of the ignition system are: plugs, wires, cap/coil, ICM, cps, cam sensor, ecu. in order of likelihood.

Air Escaping Coolant Cap by Knowlteyin Cartalk

supposed to be a pressurized system. if any air is escaping, it should be doing so via the reservoir cap, not the rad cap.

school and the internet are good for all the new computer shit and wiring. most of the actual hands on mechanical shit is good to learn OTJ.

open the windows? and you can also cut a tin can and wrap it around the exhaust to keep the fumes contained.

i find that a good toilet brush (new, obviously) and a hard bristle scrub brush work really well in engine compartments.

well if you want to read more into it, google michigan e-library chilton. click the first link. to log in to the chilton site, type in a fake drivers license #. mine is usually A123456654321. there you'll find more info on your car and possible fixes.

could check the voltage on the coil with an o-scope. this is what the chilton online says:

Air leak in the intake manifold, or in the EGR or PCM system

Base engine mechanical problem that affects only Cylinder 1

Fuel delivery component problem that affects only Cylinder 1 (i.e., a contaminated, dirty or sticking fuel injector)

Ignition system problem (coil, plug) that affects only Cylinder 1

Trail arm bushing replacement for 2000 Honda Civic EX. by MYPENlSHUGEin Cartalk

[–]poserkidsrus 2 points3 points ago

trailing arm bushings on a honda civic dont take very long to get out, personally. much less than 4 hours, for each side. are you getting both sides done? i have to assume that you are. so yeah r&r for 2 sides, could take 4 hours book time. in which case at 50/hour thats 200 plus 450 for the bushings? thats a pretty hefty markup. ask him what his book time is for the job.

Engine misfiring / spark plugs loose? 2005 Honda Civic LX by v1rotatein Cartalk

[–]poserkidsrus 2 points3 points ago

you might want to check the seals around the ignition coils, because they're probs fucked and leaking oil. that's what some of that crusty shit on there is. there are also seals inside the valve cover that go bad, which surround the spark plug holes. also, torque your spark plugs.
