Chef Alton Brown talks basic knife skills and choosing the right knife for the job by stanthemanchanin videos

Alton Brown is amazing, and this is a great breakdown of knife anatomy and usage.

If anyone is interested in learning more, I highly recommend this book, I've learned a ton from it.

I asked Jon Stewart about SOPA. He said he'd look into it, and mentioned it in the intro! by place_facein politics

I watched Thursday's ep but didn't see any mention. When I was in the Studio I got to see the writers room and they had a full list of bits for Thursday's show, so I bet there wasn't any room. Hopefully they'll get to it on Monday after they've had the weekend to write a good bit.

My exact quote was "The internet sent me to ask you what you think of SOPA and why you haven't mentioned it on your show." the Q&A is super quick so I didn't think I'd have time to explain Reddit to him, so I opted for "The Internet" instead. I think it worked out! Keep fighting the good fight!

I have VIP passes to The Daily Show tonight. What should I ask Jon Stewart about SOPA/PIPA? by place_facein politics

[–]place_face[S] 33 points34 points ago

Great advice. I've asked him a question each time I went and this is exactly how I did it. I hope I get lucky again.

There's a separate section in the audience for friends of the show, or of the guests, or of the people that work on the show. I think it's on the left of the stage, but I haven't been since Obama was the guest circa 2007 so i could be remembering that wrong.

The goal isn't to shame him into action, but I'm genuinely curious if he's been asked to avoid the topic, or if he personally doesn't want to get into it, and what his personal feelings are in general on the topic.

He does tend to laugh off serious questions though, but it's worth a shot.

John Stewart and Stephen Colbert have been silent about SOPA. Any chance for the Reddit community to influence a show guest to bring it up? by avatarrin politics

I have VIP passes to the Daily Show tonight. If I get to meet any of the correspondents I'll ask, and during the pre-show Q&A session I'll try to ask also. If there's anything specific you guys want me to ask go ahead and let me know, I'll update tonight. (Edit: specified which show)

The Unwritten Law of Respect by GayestBitchin funny

Turning one book into a movie is simple compared to trying to encapsulate the defining comic series of a generation in a movie (or even a series). The anthology, which is the best purchase i've ever made, is thousands of pages long. Way harder to get that into a movie than Where The Wild Things Are (Also C&H > WTWTA, IMHO)

$250k is uber-cheap in my area (Manhattan). This just illustrates that everything is relative, our concept of "long" or "not that long" (much like our perception of housing costs) is 100% based on our current situation.

Being famous must get kind of annoying (at least I feel like the character you play on stage and on your show would be annoyed by it).

If a fan saw you on the street, could they somehow say hi without annoying you? In other words, is there any way they could show appreciation for your work without being intrusive or rude?

This woman deserved to be fired, purely because of her unwillingness to follow company policies, but just out of curiosity do you guys thing it would be alright for a transgender man to use a ladies locker room at a gym?

Edit: Maybe I'm getting the terminology wrong. I mean a man dressed as a woman. I guess I'm asking because I would understand if women were uncomfortable with a man in their locker room, regardless of what clothes they were wearing.

So unbelievably true. A tl;dr of that book (aka the intro and first chapter) is really all you need. Everything after that is just filler.
