Reddit is becoming a fucking obituary and pet cemetery. That's not news, not funny, not interesting. It's just depressing. I feel bad for these people and their situations but I really don't care that much and I wish they would stop hanging up their laundry on our apartment building. I downvote every waah cancer post I see now. It's not that I'm heartless, it's that I just don't care and we have subreddits for coping with this shit.

pikpikcarrotmon on For the love of God, why did I buy an HP Photo-smart printer?

Considering that you can get a Brother 435/835 for $100 or less, an Epson Workforce 635 for $65, an HP 6500A for $100, or if you go $50 more, an 8600A... you can have much, much better in the inkjet category and not have a plastic piece of crap that takes a single color cartridge. Fairly certain that Canon's offerings in the same class are better too, even though the ink is a bit more. What you're forgetting when it comes to ink price is ink capacity. Sure it's only $10 for a Kodak black cartridge, but it only has a few hundred pages (at 5% coverage). Lexmark's offering in the same category has 550 pages for $5. The Kodak inkjets are lower quality than basically everything in their class, they don't have separate cartridges for colors, they have low capacity on the ink, and they're flimsy plastic garbage. You're lucky that you haven't had any problems yet - almost every single Kodak we've ever sold came back to us as a damage or return.

pikpikcarrotmon on For the love of God, why did I buy an HP Photo-smart printer?

If you'd ever seen one of their printers in person you wouldn't be recommending them. Any character of importance who has stayed dead died "on-camera". I can't think of a single one who didn't. Even characters who were mortally wounded did not die until they were "on-screen" again. Robert, Renly, Drogo, Ned, Robb, etc. all died unquestionably right where we could see them. On the other hand, Ser Gregor took deep wounds from a poisoned lance to basically every soft spot on his body, but he didn't die at that exact moment and here he is again. Quentyn, too, did not die in the chapter where he was melted by dragons. He died later in one of Barristan's chapters.

I believe this is not only a coincidence, it's a rule, and furthermore, nobody dies in their own POV. I can't think of a single example that betrays this rule - an important character dying where we can't see them and being confirmed as dead. To me, this means that Jon must be alive, otherwise GRRM would have shown us his death. Similarly, to me this confirms that the Hound is the brother on that island, that Gregor is Robert Strong, and that Syrio is at the very least alive (I'm not sure I buy the Syrio = Jaqen theory). And I don't think anyone believes that Ramsay killed Stannis.

Are there any characters I've forgotten who actually did die in their POV (besides those in prologues and epilogues), or who died where we couldn't see it happen and have been confirmed as dead?

EDIT: Who's going through and downvoting all the comments? Is that how /r/asoiaf treats discussions? Maybe I should go back to /r/gameofthrones.

submitted by pikpikcarrotmon to asoiaf
[link] [25 comments]

pikpikcarrotmon on Just finished Dune... I personally loved it, but I can see where it would put someone off. No matter what, you have just finished one of the greatest triumphs of the human imagination and it won't retroactively be any worse if you choose to read onward or not (as long as you ignore Brian Herbert's tragedies).

pikpikcarrotmon on Okay, so what SHOULD Dany have done in A Dance with Dragons?
